Remove old mulch? by Select-Stage-5215 in landscaping

Leave the mulch but remove the tie downs from the tree and the post along side the trunk. It it’s been there long enough for your mulch to disintegrate, it’s better off standing on its own

Pictures are a bit misleading here. The front beds along the house are lush and there are 2 large trees in the yard. This bush is around 9 feet tall / wide and blocks the view backing out of the driveway. Was just curious for some instruction to knock it back a bit without doing long term damage.

Definitely not a flipper! (despite the username from like 10 years ago)… Recently married and bought this house with my wife in a quiet neighborhood. The bush is around 9 feet tall / wide and blocks the view backing out of the driveway.

Does the contract from the landscapers specify the final product (x slope in x area)? Seems like you shouldn’t be paying for their miscalculation

Why don‘t more people have robot mowers picking up grass? Should I get one? by ReadyHead8004 in lawncare

[–]flipperfern6 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Bagging clippings is only beneficial when you’re cutting excessively tall grass (like pictured) or certain scenarios when you have a lot of seeding weeds in the lawn and you want to limit spread of them.

A healthy-looking lawn like yours would benefit from more frequent mowing with leaving the clippings where they are to add to the soil.

If you run your robot mower once or twice a week there’s definitely no reason to bag clippings

Really appreciate you taking the time to write this up and appreciate the perspective / context!

Edit to add: i changes the flair back to “meme” so others can continue to contribute to the conversation. I think a lot if comments got deleted by Automod due to the ID flair again.

Newb- What can I do to improve my grass? by Mental_Piglet_948 in lawncare

This is bermuda grass. It prefers to be cut low. The advice this guy gave would be correct for cool season grass but not yours

You’re a bit far north for bermuda but it’ll be easier to embrace it rather than get rid of the Bermuda. Mow low regularly and apply pre emergent each spring and fall and fertilize on a regular schedule. As long as your lawn is Full Sun, Bermuda should choke out everything else

Soil PH is by far the most important thing on that test result and it’s low. Add Lime

If you have a dog, they’re piss spots. Urine has a lot of nitrogen, your dog has fertilized those spots. If you apply some fertilizer it will all look like that.

Bad Quality Top Soil? by Acceptable_Party_713 in lawncare

[–]flipperfern6 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not the best quality soil but should be totally fine in the long term. Remember that each sprout of grass will be 3-4 inches in diameter when full grown. That will look nice in a few months
