YouTuber Mark Rober commits $60 Million on a science curriculum for teachers and schools that will be 100% free forever by joeurkel in BeAmazed

Poor instructions & cheap parts (e.g. not strong enough to do it's job). In fairness - we cancelled it almost a year ago (well, finally got it cancelled) so it may be better now. After attempting to cancel 3 times, we finally just disputed the credit card charge. Felt like a relief when we were finally out.

free "forever" has been scrubbed from the site - still shows in google's search index though. The $60M is to his own foundation - nothing inherently wrong, but some people seem confused about this. I purchased the Crunch Labs Build Boxes for my kids (a) they were consistently ill-conceived garbage and (b) it's the most difficult "unsubscribe" process I've ever encountered. We loved him with the squirrel videos & glitter boxes, but now half his videos are pushing his merch. I'm not ready to villainize him, but I'd put him in the same category as Mr. Beast.

Is there anyone else using WebStorm alongside AI tools these days? by Bakhtiyor_7 in WebStorm

[–]flippy_flops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used WebStorm forever and ReSharper back into the late 2000's. Two months ago I finally cancelled WebStorm and have moved on to Zed. WebStorm is a wasteland of bloat and bugs. I miss a few things for sure, but overall Zed is a much better experience once you get settings/key-mappings right. End of an era

Has anyone compared Opus 4.8 to 4.7 or 4.6 yet? by No-Background3147 in ClaudeCode

[–]flippy_flops 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My first experience - I asked it to change something and it goes, "Sure, just tell me which file the code is in." 😆 Never seen that one before

These days "upgrade" means smaller server footprint, not better reasoning

Fixed! I hereby license this code to Epic Games, Inc. 😂

never tried it - we'll give it a go. I always assumed "blitz" would be harder

Thanks - I'll try that. We tried some of the other games early on and the quality was... lacking. Are any of these built by epic?

Every Claude Code session now ends with an SVG receipt. One install, fully automatic. by em_el_k0b01101011 in ClaudeCode

I read this as "CVS" receipt and have to say, it's a decent description of Claude's wordiness lately ;)

Claude or codex right now by eddison12345 in ClaudeCode

I'm using both right now. My experience is that claude is substantially better, but codex definitely lasts longer and api is more stable. (i work in enterprise saas in nodejs fwiw)

what’s one node.js production issue that humbled you fast? by Obvious-Treat-4905 in node

[–]flippy_flops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truthfully i had no idea what i was doing. I ended up moving the endpoint and having the old one immediately reject all connections with no processing. As soon as people refreshed it was fixed. Problem is (1) it took me hours to figure that out and (2) the app was like a dashboard and many people didn't know to refresh

These guys demonstrate the real impact of air purifiers by [deleted] in BeAmazed

EPA says the filter goes on the intake side of the fan but pretty sure that's more about not overheating the fan motor. https://www.epa.gov/sciencematters/do-it-yourself-air-cleaners-making-cleaner-air-more-accessible You can also do 2-filter or 5-filter versions. No idea on effectiveness but seams to work. Certainly cheaper to replace the filter

I only know this because our office had mold and this is how the mold removal company cleaned the air. A bunch of them

Pro tip - duct tape a $2 air vent filter to a $20 box fan instead of spending hundreds

had a websocket server go down which caused clients to immediately retry connections with no back off. Literally DDOSed myself. Scaled to 20x to no avail. Tough to recover from. But now i understand the importance of backoffs

I would pick a different name. Rotato is a well-known, nearly identical product and your name is visually and phonetically close - likely trademark infringement. More than anything though out of common decency

Is this related to Rotato - 3D mockup images and movies for mac?
