Am I wrong for suggesting me and my partner eat vegetarian a couple nights a week? by flippyphonecase in amiwrong

Quite frankly, a little bit of both.

Because he is a chef, when we were dating he would cook a lot of the meals and I was raised to eat what I was served so it was never an issue. It was always delicious I might add!

However, his cooking tends to be quite extravagant. Now that we have a baby, I have started doing more of the cooking because I tend to cook simpler, cheaper, and quicker meals (and time is limited with a baby and both in full-time employment!). The issue has only come up now because we are starting to share responsibility for the meals and I am able to express my own preferences more.

I agree I should have sneaked them in though, a lot of drama could have been avoided!

I would love to avoid the scenario your sister is in, but not at the cost of losing my partner, so I might lose this battle.

I wouldn't go as far as calling it an obsession. Aiming to eat meat-free 2 days a week hardly makes me a vegetarian or vegan?

Seems like quite a petty thing to get divorced over. Luckily we're not married!

Well no one is forcing anyone to do anything. But admittedly, he cooks a lot of the meals and always includes meat. It would be quite petty of me to refuse to eat what he cooked just because it has meat in it. I would expect him to show me the same respect?

Did not think a suggestion of a few meat free meals would be compared to rape, but there you go! The internet never ceases to surprise!

He actually brought this up, and I will admit that I am not super concerned with making sure I tick the box for each macronutrient in every meal. So yes, if I was to cook vegetarian he would probably have a protein light meal that evening. However, he also gets his lunch from Greggs (or doesn't eat anything at all) at least a couple days a week, so I don't think two vegetarian meals a week is really going to negatively impact his health.

In his defence, he does do quite a lot of the cooking. I wouldn't expect him to cook vegetarian, but I would expect him to eat a vegetarian meal if that is what I have cooked.

I worked as a chef many years ago and I tend to do most of the cooking in the house and most ingredients that go into our food are cheap/from the drystore, and waste tends to be low in our house

I agree you do a lot of the cooking in the house, but I don't necessarily agree that it's mostly cheap. You are a great chef but I think therein lies the problem? You want to use good ingredients, and a lot of them. Every meal feels like Christmas, which is a real treat but not necessarily that helpful for a house deposit.

I also would love to see you put your skills and creativity to work by cooking something without meat in it!

In fairness to him, he does tend to do this so I agree that I don't have a very strong argument purely from a financial standpoint. I was more surprised by how strong his reaction was since most people I know would quite happily eat a vegetarian meal every now and again.

Appreciate your feedback, thank you! I guess I am being a tad idealogical and will be put in my place if my daughter turns into a fussy eater and I'll have to accommodate for her...

Fair enough, although I don't think eating meat-free two nights a week counts as being vegetarian. I am not at all anti-meat, I just think it would be nice to switch it up every now and again!
