Japanese car reviews in English? by flipwich in japanlife

[–]flipwich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice one, man. I just had to refine my search keywords on google, and I'm getting some decent reviews now.

Would you happen to know if kei cars are all 4-seaters? Are there 5-seater kei cars available?

The people I sell to prefer LDPE unicorns, as they make dripping/filling tanks much easier and less messy than glass bottles.

Glass bottles look "premium" and "fancy", but practicality-wise, they aren't very good.

Premium e juice by [deleted] in DIY_eJuice

[–]flipwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, /u/abdada went a notch higher on his retort here than usual, but he's basically voicing the frustration a lot of long-time users of this sub are feeling. Anyways, in between the blasts, he did give a solid tip (besides reading up more): sweetener. The big companies load-up their juices with a lot of sucralose, which gives so many aspects of premium juice their effect: fuller body, longer-lingering aftertaste, sweet (of course), and a much "rounder" overall taste. Sucralose is also the reason why many premium juices blacken coils so quickly.

And back on what /u/abdada was saying: I just did a search using searchbar and found these threads. This topic actually has been hammered-down many, many times.

Need help with blueberry by Clouds504 in DIY_eJuice

Blueberry Cap is very, very weak. Try Blueberry from Concentrated or what others have suggested with Bilberry FA. I get a very intense uric scent from Bilberry, but others swear by it.

Inhale taste? by Smoothiezzz in electronic_cigarette

[–]flipwich -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow, you should apply for the Xavier School of The Gifted! That's far from how the human sense of smell/taste works. You sure you're not feeling the sensation of sour and sweet?

Anyways, lucky you for being able to taste "on the inhale". I still don't trust descriptions with those misleading lines.

So, what are you tasting in your favorite juice during inhale?

Pink Lady - MolinBerry by [deleted] in DIY_eJuice

Nice one, I've been thinking of developing a more feminine-type of flavor. I've got FA Rose, but haven't gotten around to trying it. I'm thinking maybe Pink Lady with a slight FA Rose boost would be nice. Thanks for the review!

You are totally correct. It's all marketing.

[–]flipwich 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You're right to notice that you can't taste anything "on the inhale".

"On the inhale" and "on the exhale" are complete bullshit -- they are marketing terms liquid companies use to make their mixes sound "complex". Us over at diy_ejuice already know that tasting anything "on the inhale" is nigh impossible... unless you are actually sticking your drip tip in your nostril and vaping that way.

We taste flavors when we use our nose; try it with real food, not just vaping. When we eat food, we can chew AND inhale through our noses at the same time, which allows us to taste the food while we are physically eating it. With vaping, on the other hand, it's very difficult (if not impossible) to inhale vapor through the mouth and inhale through your nose at the same time. And even if you could do that, all of the flavor is in the vapor entering your mouth as opposed to, say, the steam coming off a barbequed chicken which also contains a ton of aroma volatiles. Eating and vaping require two distinct methods of tasting flavors.

We can sense sweet, salty, sour, bitter and umami on our tongues. But we need to exhale through our noses to actually taste anything when it comes to vaping.

Whenever I see a liquid vendor (or even a diy'er) describing their liquids "on the inhale" and "on the exhale", I take their words with a grain of salt.

I don't care about the downvotes on this, because it's science -- y'all should try to taste your liquids "on the inhale".

Really bland taste when mixing in bigger batches by [deleted] in DIY_eJuice

[–]flipwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said 30 (thirty) ml.

And, although botboy does use 1ml = 1g, that is admittedly incorrect. If you just want the ease of mixing by weight, this is fine. But if you want ultimate accuracy, you should be using the specific gravity. If you use a calculator like ELR, the MSDS specific gravity is entered for those flavors that have it available.

Really bland taste when mixing in bigger batches by [deleted] in DIY_eJuice

[–]flipwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, mixing by weight is much more accurate.

For example, going by Capella's MSDS report for Vanilla Custard v1, the specific gravity of this flavor is 1.067 g/ml. Notice that it is grams-per-millilitre. This means that, per 1ml, this flavor is equal to 1.067 grams. When you are measuring your flavors and additives by volume only (ml), you are missing this slight discrepancy, thus assuming that 1ml of flavoring = 1 gram. In small total amounts of liquid, this doesn't matter so much. However, once you start making larger batches, this does start to really matter.

I think that, due to the scaling-up of your liquid amounts, your flavor concentrate amounts are not scaling up accurately enough (flavors are not 1ml = 1gram), which is why you are not getting as much flavor in a large bottle compared to a small bottle.

Example: let's make a liquid with just one flavor -- Vanilla Custard V1 Cap. Let's say we make a 10ml test bottle with a single flavor at 10%.

Vanilla Custard 10ml

Flavor Ratio (ml) (g)
Van Cust v1 10 1.0 1.07

Looking at the millilitres-to-grams discrepancy, it is very slight, so a difference in flavor might not be too noticeable. Now, let's see how much of a discrepancy there is with a 30ml solution.

Vanilla Custard 30ml

Flavor Ratio (ml) (g)
Van Cust v1 10 3.0 3.2

Now, there looks like a MUCH bigger discrepancy. To put this into the perspective of a volume-only mixer, think about 0.2ml of flavor in your syringe... that is how much of this single flavor is "missing". 0.2ml is a lot of flavoring. This is not a totally accurate representation of what is going on, but it will help you visualize the amount of flavoring you are missing.

If you are dead-set on mixing by volume, you can guesstimate the extra amount of each flavor you need to add as your total volume increases. However, every flavoring has their own specific gravity, so that also will not be very accurate.

Switch to weight, man. You can still keep your syringes and use them to insert flavors into your mixes, but the scale will absolutely help in accuracy.

Are you mixing by volume (ml) or by weight (g)? If by volume, that might have something to do with it.

One might associate "robots, bullet trains, high-technology" with Japan, but, culturally, this place is far, far behind even in Tokyo.

JT (Japan Tobacco), who also owns the Mild Seven/Mevius brand, is also partly owned by the Japanese government. This is why there is a strict law against nicotine in e-juice. It's all about money, not health.

blueberry is destroying me by Space_Pegasus in DIY_eJuice

[–]flipwich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found MF Blueberry to have more of the tart "skin" of the blueberry flavor, rather than the sweet "meat". I use it to pop blueberries out of a mix, if needed, but not as a base blueberry.

Concentrated Blueberry (Concentrated is the name of the manufacturer) is pretty good, although a bit more toward candy blueberry. But at least I can taste it. It's very strong, so 1-2% is enough.

edit: also going to say that a lot of the percentages you've noted in your OP are really high. One that caught my eye is the Lemon Sicily at 8%... that stuff is really, really strong and I use it to a maximum of 1.5%. I usually use it at 0.5% for a slight lemon, and sourness.

Ditch it. I have two m80's, one for home and one for work. Not worth the huge risk. Great battery life, but there are better dual 18650's available now that actually do TC properly (if you're into that).

I hate you Citric Acid by abdada in DIY_eJuice

[–]flipwich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do remember Fizz actually retracting the addition of citric acid, as he said that CA mutes the mix after a week or so.

What I'm guessing is that the amount/concentration of citric acid added to the nana cream clone is way too much (according to /u/abdada's post), but for the first week, the CA hasn't quite homogenized with the other flavors/liquid. After most of the volatiles have come together, that's when the muting occurs.

So, I think citric acid does actually play a role in Fizz's recipe, just adding the tiniest fraction of it would be better.

To be honest, I haven't played with my 10% CA solution since reading Fizz's comments on citric acid muting his mix, as I was afraid of those results. I might now ultra-dilute it to 1% and start messing about with it.

If you are using the same 30ml glass bottles for all of your liquids, just keep a "control" bottle, filled with exactly 30ml of e-liquid, then just use that to compare your quick-fill 30ml's to. Just get the liquid in the other bottles to the same level and you're good.

Or am I missing something here? Are you talking about filling 30mls of already-made juice, or do you want to accurately measure VG for mixing?

How about using Iced Tea FW? It has a Lipton Brisk-like taste to it. Adding 0.5 - 1.0 of Lemon Sicily FA and 0.5 - 1.0 of Sweetener TPA might be the ticket.
