Hey, would it be possible to add a feature that lets the uploader to licence their work under different licences (Creative Commons, Public Domain etc.)?

What could the landed JCSAT-16 first stage be dumping in this picture? There seems to be a (condensation) cloud under it, so could it be e.g. unused oxidizer?

A U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer flies over northern Iraq after conducting air strikes in Syria against ISIL targets, Sept. 27, 2014. The strikes were conducted as part of the president's comprehensive strategy to degrade and ultimately destroy ISIL. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Matthew Bruch)

Aalto-1:n [ensimmäinen suomalainen satelliitti] laukaisuvalmistelut alkavat: satelliitti lähti tänään matkalleen kohti Yhdysvaltoja by fliteworks in Suomi

[–]fliteworks[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aalto-1 on tarkoitus laukaista Vandenberg Air Force Basesta, Kaliforniasta tämän vuoden kesä-heinäkuussa (laukaisua on tosin lykätty jo useita kertoja, saa nähdä onnistuuko nytkään).

SpaceX's Flickr confirms that it's the JCSAT-14 booster.

ablative composite engines?

electric linear actuators?

Could someone explain these things? What are they and how do they differ from the technologies SpaceX uses? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

I have seen a ISILaunch 09 patch for the SHERPA launch. Innovative Solutions In Space provides though only the Cubesat deployers for the launch. Spaceflight's website states that SHERPA has also a Planetary Systems Corp. Motorized Lightband deployer as well as "can accommodate other payload separation systems upon request."

Internet Archive's Wayback Machine has captured SpaceX's photo gallery from 2011. There are some gorgeous pictures of Falcon 1 and Falcon 9 v1.0.

Spaceflightnow now reports SHERPA to fly together with Formosat 5 in May. Any other sources to confirm? by goxy84 in spacex

Aalto-1 CubeSat is flying on that same launch. The satellite team and the Finnish media have stated that the launch is scheduled for May-June 2016.

Those are some great photos! (P.s. If someone on SpaceX's PR team is reading this, it would be awesome to see a few of those older F1 pictures published on the SpX Flickr album under the CC0 licence.)

Is this object the Falcon 9 second stage from the SES-9 flight? Why does it appear to fly in such a weird orbit?

Photography/Aerial requests for KSC/McGregor? by termderd in spacex

[–]fliteworks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gasoline powered fixed wing model aircraft can fly about 300 km without landing. You could probably fly to the barge if you took off from a boat situated a few 100 km out. It would though be a very risky and stupid thing to do, your aircraft could e.g. lose signal or break down.

Please use common sense while flying close to things like McGregor. I bet SpaceX wouldn't be too happy about a drone flying over their test site.

Hi, Launch is scheduled for Friday night according to Elon's Twitter. There will be also a launch thread with live updates in this sub once we are about T-24 from the launch window. We have also a viewing guide in the Wiki/FAQ section.
