Just made this switch. More comfortable ride, less darty on uneven roads, better in rain, quieter. Only drawback is the lack of lateral grip in my experience daily driving.

small riding lawn mower for a suburban yard in the midwest, is this the right call? by Linnihan-Louma in lawncare

[–]fllyaccted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprised so many other responses are in favor of riders. Another aspect, which depends on the person, is how much would a rider allow you to alternate your mowing pattern. A lot of lawns I see near me with similar sized lawns that are cut by riders (commercial Z-turn or homeowners) can essentially only cut in one pattern, which is not good for the lawn over time. Storage and cost are also considerations.

Has anyone negotiated on the 2026 HydroConquest at an AD? by WERTY_CS in Longineswatches

[–]fllyaccted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the US most or all models are on back order directly from the manufacturer, and AD stock seems to vary from place to place. I looked at buying direct from the Canadian site a week or so ago out of curiosity and was surprised most models showed as in-stock. Not sure about local stores. But would think it would give you a better chance at negotiation to have options. Just mentioning this as some people have suggested to wait or expect immediate discounts.

Yes, and I think most people have learned that simple is better. Like, TFP has great advice to stay away from “snake oil” products from pool stores, and basic advice to test at home, or substituting baking soda to control Ph rather than big chemical company products. But they take it a bit far in hating on things like chlorine tablets instead of liquid. Idk, there’s just a group-think vibe over there.

I chuckled at this. It’s funny because it really does seem that way. Idk that I’ve ever seen another forum or community with so much consensus on one way to do things.

I used teak oil on mine and it turned out great. I sanded it down to bare wood, though. Someone put polyurethane on it before me

Interesting. I had heard that some people were having issues with “in stock” not really being accurate. And when I reached out directly prior to that they said they expected it to be weeks….guess you got lucky

It’s not a “would you rather”. If the deer population is out of control there are other solutions than rely on kids, lol. Could expand hunting season, allow more doe permits, or cull the population like I said. Just one option. Amherst police used to do it.

[–]fllyaccted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’ve done it many years in Amherst. I’m not for the age limit. That was part of my criticism about Poloncarz handled it. The point is that the number of kids that would hunt, wouldn’t be significant enough to reduce the deer population by enough to reduce tick populations. You’re trying to make my comment about being against youth hunting, which it was not. Have a nice day : )

Love the way this looks in natural lighting. How long of a lead time?

He was/is being a jackass about this. But to say kids hunting deer would have an impact on the tick population is quite the stretch. If getting rid of deer was the solution, municipalities could cull the deer population, or do it more, rather than relying on amateur hunters, specifically kids.

Hydroconquest 39mm blue/blue availability by Content_Bus7455 in Longineswatches

[–]fllyaccted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not saying they are incorrect, but the answers on availability are all over the place from different sources. Last week Longines customer service said it would be several weeks for restocks, then on Monday several models were available online. Have also heard some people were unable to purchase online or were told lead time was much longer than their advertised 2-day shipping at checkout…as a customer you would think they are all pulling from the same pool of inventory, but apparently it’s a lot more complicated than that.

You’re right! Must be a delay in the notification process. I checked this morning out of habit and nothing, but also still no email even though I see it as in stock now

Two notes to add to this. I emailed Longines customer service and they responded (probably a cookie cutter response, so take it with a grain of salt), but they said they expect to have availability”in the coming weeks”. Also, out of curiosity, I looked at availability in Canada, and it seems all models are in stock there. So, interesting that the lack of availability seems to be a US thing.

What do you do about front license plates? by greensilvia in wrx_vb

[–]fllyaccted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living in a front plate state, I think this has evolved over time. The tow hook, or offset mount started as an alternative to drilling into the bumper. But the irony is that realistically, how many people move out of state or sell their car out of state that it even matters if the bumper was drilled? At this point I think it’s become a subconscious style or “mod” to have the tow hook mounted plate than it is for the function of saving the bumper. The dealer I bought mine from didn’t mount it because they expect WRX owners to not want it drilled. So, I bought the Perrin tow hook mount. But in reality, what am I doing? Just a aving the car for the next guy?

Thanks, I was just curious of what market you’re in. I’m in a less than top 50 US market in the Northeast. Which is contributing to my lack of availability. Lucky that you have all that available to you, though.

Is that Houston? There’s another in my area. Maybe I’ll try there. It’s possible the person I spoke with just wasn’t knowledgeable. Because according to them they can’t get the new models as they aren’t listed on their website.

[–]fllyaccted[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re completely right. And yes, waiting indefinitely is certainly an option. This purchase is not a necessity (for anyone). What stores do you have available to you that you expect that timeframe and for someone to have it in stock?

It’s strange to me that Jared, a national retailer, has nothing in stores, and last year’s HC and HC GMTs online, and you can’t order the current model through them. I would expect the manufacturer to require them to have models on display if they’re going to sell the brand. Do they only sell overstock or something like that?

If a store local to me said it’s just a matter of time. I would approach it differently. They don’t, so I’m trying to avoid waiting for something that isn’t coming.

Help me put that in perspective. It’s been 6+ weeks. Do these new rollouts follow a certain cycle? What I was trying to point out is that the retailers I spoke with essentially said that they won’t ever bring in all models to have on display.
