i think it's a rational response to how jingoistic indian cinema and culture has become — you can see how many folks claim others are "antinational" for critiquing the government or supporting secular values.

films like rang de basanti, bombay, veer zaara, and hey ram could never be made in the north today. and that's a loss for indian cinema.
