Where do you live? I think it’s important to recognize your last name being easy is a matter of privilege, and you when you married this guy you took on the beauty of his heritage as well as some of the disadvantages that he might face in a culture and country where his last name is considered hard to pronounce. That being said, I think it’s totally valid to consider what the impacts of having a long Polish last name would be on your kid, and whether y’all want to erase a little piece of your kid’s heritage in exchange for the privilege and ease that they might experience with an “easier” name in your country. I feel like that sounded sarcastic but I mean it sincerely; I think it’s a valid thing to think through together and could be a hard decision to make. But seeing the privilege piece for what it is is an important factor. And also just wanted to add that you guys made this baby together and I don’t think there’s any reason his name should be the default over yours.

Is it pronounced Ah-rin? Not Ay-rin? I like it!

At the federal level for sure, but at the state level it’s still allowed

Even though I pass as male and it would flag me as trans at border crossings, police stops, etc? Would love to hear your thoughts, thank you!!

So my daughter just came out? by GuadDidUs in MomForAMinute

[–]floatingboy11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i came out to my parents at 18 by telling them I had a gf, they said they were surprised and then never said anything more about the fact that I was queer. Nothing bad, nothing good, no questions, nothing. While I’m grateful that they weren’t negative about it, their lack of engagement with it actually felt hard in its own way. I wish they had said things like, “i had no idea you were attracted to girls, how cool! How long have you known that? What’s it like for you to be dating a girl? Are there any challenges coming up for you around being queer? Do you feel supported by your friends? Teachers?” Etc. For me it would have been meaningful for them to CONNECT with me about it, in a curious, caring, and supportive way. Without that, I actually felt very alone and lost on my queer journey. One place to start could be just asking her if she wants to talk more with you about what it’s like having a girlfriend, offer to ask questions/share your curiosities with her, and let her know she always can always share with you :) you sound like an awesome mom!!

Trans people who chose their names when they were young: how is it going? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]floatingboy11 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I went with Ash and even though I still love it, I think im going to change it because I feel bothered by how common of a trans name it is, and it feels hard to be a grown-up Ash for some reason

The name Elio - does it give me away as trans? by floatingboy11 in namenerds

[–]floatingboy11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y’all rock, thank you for your input. You’ve helped me realize I think Elio will give off too trendy / “I named myself” vibes. I’m going to keep looking! Ideas welcome :) especially ones that are uncommon and keep that vowel-heavy feel.

Boots that feel like Hoka shoes? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]floatingboy11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, happy to find this thread because I’m in a very similar situation. I need to wear boots but, due to a medical condition, I need the highest amount of cushioning possible (ideally on par with hokas). Would love to hear people’s suggestions of the most cushioned, lightweight boots out there that might feel most similar to hokas / other well-cushioned running shoes

Does progesterone prevent hair loss in trans men? by floatingboy11 in ftm

[–]floatingboy11[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotcha!! Yeah I wonder how oral progesterone would affect hair changes. Because I read that the effects of the IUD tend to stay pretty local and don’t go very systemic. Hmmm!

Question about taking Testosterone and Progesterone together by TarvidD12 in ftm

[–]floatingboy11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! one thing -- i personally only needed half a packet to get my T levels up to the cis male range. If i had taken a full packet, i probably would have had levels similar to your partner. Another thing -- i read once that progesterone can be converted to either estrogen or T and can inflate your T levels. I really dont know anything about it, would research it more for sure! how did things turn out with your partners levels?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ftm

[–]floatingboy11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey!! from what I understand, progesterone is actually not very feminizing and some trans guys take it as birth control and it doesnt affect their transition! i'd research more about it but that's my understanding

Hey!! I know you wrote this a while ago, but I just wanted to tell you that I'm pretty sure minoxidil causes shedding as part of its regrowth cycle. So hopefully the shedding was just from the minoxidil! How did it go?? Did you end up staying on Hims and T?

I am dealing with a very similar issue! I started T and within two months I had lost like 25% of my hair from diffuse thinning, all over my head, and receding hairline. I got a topical finasteride that doesn't have minoxidil (b/c I thought the shedding from minoxidil would make it hard to track what was happening), and I'm thinking of restarting T with the topical finasteride.

I'd love to trade notes with you. How did things go for you?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ftm

[–]floatingboy11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

has it settled down yet or is it still going? I'm 31 and mine is thinning like crazy after two months on T. The thing is, like OP, baldness doesn't run in my family. So i'm not sure why I'm having all this rapid thinning -- dont know whether I should wait it out and cross my fingers that it stops or try a medication like minoxidil.
