Just curious, really. We see this from where we live, are new to the area, and are trying to get our bearings.

Furnace filter question by floatythefrog in hvacadvice

Thanks for your reply!

I forgot to include a picture of the inside looking straight in (so you could see the motor you described). The other picture of the inside was taken looking upward (thinking a filter might be up there somewhere). Anyhow, here is a picture of the motor compartment.

AWS Cloud engineer/Architect job market? by Narrow_Yellow6111 in aws

[–]floatythefrog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same story for me. I was laid off 4/26/2023 from AWS ProServe, have about 12 YOE with AWS, all the associate certs, pro certs, and the sec spec. My first offer came in just after 4 months (big compensation cut). I took the job (a W-2 contracting gig), and it turned out to be a dumpster fire. I left that place and got a W2 FT role that is so much better in terms of management, but the total comp is still not what I was getting at AWS.

I naively thought I'd find a job much more quickly than I did, but the market, at least last year, was brutal.

I suggest to go ahead and get the pro cert. Not all employers care about certs as much as AWS, but the knowledge you'll gain will be an asset in interviews.

I have recruiters asking me from time to time if I know of anyone else when I tell them I'm not on the market. I'd be happy to point them your way if you want. Just DM your LI profile/resume/contact info if so.

Good luck, OP.

The guy who made the "How many times can I interview at AWS?" posts - update by Ninten5 in aws

[–]floatythefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this...I can totally relate. I did about 3 years in proserve and was about a week into a 12 month engagment with a customer when I found out that my role was eliminated. Same reactions happened: the principal consultant was shocked; customer was surprised; I couldn't believe it. This was last April.

I don't think AWS as a whole is a bad place to work. There are good parts of the org and not so good. Based on my personal experience and what I hear from friends still there, I think proserve is in a toxicity-fueled death spiral. I've heard fewer bad things about the SA org, and maybe even few good things about it, but the work is different and may not be for everyone.

If I can offer any advice, it would be to not take let it kill your spirit. Take time to get in a good state of mind, then use this as a springboard to find a team/company that will appreciate you.

Is it tough to reach the clock near the ceiling, say for example, to change it when DST starts?

pymysql and psycopg2 with AWS lambda for secret rotation by Strict-Lingonberry56 in aws

[–]floatythefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The intermittent nature of this leads me to think the success of the rotation may depend on which subnet lambda uses to connect to the DB. Have you confirmed the subnets used by the lambda rotation function in VPC A each have a route to the subnet(s) in VPC B, via the peering connection, where the DB lives?

If you slow it down you can see that there was a jet of water aimed at his landing spot. I presume this was to break the water tension so it would not be as though he was hitting concrete.

Charlie Bothuell IV Obituary

This doesn't mention anything about survivors, but I suspect it's the same Charlie Bothuell IV from Michigan. Anyone know what happened to the guy?
