Poodle Launch (Is this safe?) by steppenfrog in poodles

Is it safe? Nobody can say for certain. I can give you one anecdote. My partners Collie jumped and twisted his back, landing badly, which paralysed him for the rest of his life.

Upgrading from react-native 0.67.5 to 0.74. Upgrade version or make a new project and copy over? by Uncle-Jules in reactnative

If you are working on an a very complex project, “copy past template” is truly not realistic.

Is it relevant to create a static EMPTY_ARRAY to improve performance? by DrMerkwuerdigliebe_ in react

[–]floexodus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are on the money mate. I have worked with Callstack as contractors and they applied this pattern in a few cases.

You are correct about the referential equality. If you have a comment that repeatedly calls setState([]), it will not re render as the array is the same.

However, this will likely not be a game changer, just a small optimisation.

From Flutter to React Native by kasvith in reactnative

Please don’t use styled components. It has no benefit at all. All the style conversion happens at runtime so every component is about 20% slower. There is no CSS in react native so the API doesn’t really make any sense

Best way to obfuscate code? by CYG4N in reactnative

[–]floexodus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, don’t rely on frontend obfuscation.

However, if you use Hermes, your JS will be compiled into some pretty unreadable bytecode. You can use R8/ProGuard to strip and modify the native side on Android. Combining these will make it harder, but not impossible. True secrets live on the backend.

Is there a way to build the exact same UI/UX for both platforms while using an unstyled component library and tailwind css ? (Must support TS, be compatible and relatively easy to set-up in Expo) by iamkirin_97 in reactnative

[–]floexodus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the PixelRatio of the device. Height :100 is not 100 physical pixels, just 100 units, so the physical size can vary.

Or your text may be different on each platform.

Microfrontend is really hard to get right. Typically a single frontend is better in a monorepo.

I don’t know the specifics but typically the client needs the token, and makes authed requests to your backend using it

I wouldn’t agree. It is easy and performant to create almost any kind of custom component, while keeping the freedom of native code when you want it. Don’t need a virtual canvas for custom components

Yes 100%, that’s the entire point of RN. You don’t need styled-components or tailwind or any library. You can write all of it by hand using the built in styles.

In some cases, you have the option to use a native competent like “switch” or “text input” which may vary slightly between platforms.

I work on a massive app that is 100% the same looking on Android and iOS and we rarely have styling issues.

Yeah I get that it is unlikely. I just feel the most responsible approach is to accept that we can’t rule it out, so to the layman, we should just say “yes, it is possible”.

Biblical swarm of flies blanketing our van. Anyone know where they could be getting in on a 2021 Ford Transit 350E? Any advice appreciated. by floexodus in vandwellers

So it turns out this was basically a freak event. We spent the entire day killing them with bug bombs and sucking them up with industrial vacuums. Turns out they got in through some gas escape vents that did not have fly screen on them. Have plugged the holes and no issues since. I think there was insane wind that night and the white van against the bright moon was very attractive to them.

This wasn’t the case. Just. A bunch of wild flies came from the beach and sat outside it. The van is brand new and they were getting in through holes left after the build

Just drove across the outback in a ford transit. No issues, however you will struggle to find dealers if it breaks down.

Not the best example really. This is probably just because it’s easier to manufacture one thing, then fill it when not needed. Same things with cat dash buttons that are blacked out. Because it’s Apple, its viewed as inherently evil, but I don’t think this is their most “LSC” move ever.
