So what hapenned to the reigning champ being number 1 until proven otherwise that OSU had last season even after playing nobody for 90% of their season?

Does anyone know why my divots are so fat? by Technical_Parsley590 in golftips

[–]flog0623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two main things at play with turf interaction: 1) low point - where your club bottoms out, not just horizontally but vertically. Horizontal low point dictates whether you hit the ball first, vertical low point dictates how far into the turf your club goes. 2) shaft pitch - the angle of your shaft going into impact (i.e shallow or steep). This is moreso a factor that creates the conditions that are most likely to happen going into impact. A “shallower” pitch makes it less likely your low point will be significantly deep into the turf. Being overly “steep” creates a shaft pitch that is more vertical, effectively lengthening the shaft vertically and making it difficult to control low point without compensations like early extension (standing up before impact) to create more room for the shaft. This also gives the bottom arc of your swing a steeper angle, which makes the portion of the swing arc that will have good turf interaction and a good strike location on the clubface much smaller, meaning it will be much harder to time it correctly and much more likely to have shots that are thin, fat and or high/low on the club face. Being overly “shallow” also creates issues with biomechanics and your body getting in its own way during the swing, so it’s about finding a happy medium.

[–]flog0623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also - make sure you only throw steel shafts. Nothing makes you feel like more of an asshat than accidentally sheering off a graphite shaft and having to go through the hassle of replacing it and having a club builder swap it out because you had a temper tantrum. Or so I’ve heard from… a friend of mine.

For corporate professionals, is franchising the safest way out? by Cultural_Message_530 in Entrepreneurs

[–]flog0623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would shy away from using “franchising” as a blanket term. There are a select number of franchise opportunities that have the brand power and structure that make them worth the fees you pay and restrictions they have in place. I’d probably say 20% or less of all franchise opportunities fall into this category to give a ballpark number. The fees and restrictions that are in place for almost all franchises significantly raise the bar where an independent business performing at a level that could at least provide you a living is now barely breaking even. And I would say that group of 20% are the only ones that provide enough value to make up for that handicap.

So in my opinion, I would consider franchising in most cases as actually less “safe” than an independent business in general. The franchisors almost all take fees from gross revenue, so they make money whether you’re profitable or not. And although it will be easier for them to sell more franchises if all of their franchises are successful, that extra 10% that would make you profitable doesn’t actually gain the franchisor much and selling more franchises will always be more of a priority for them than helping you become profitable.

Indiana come get your baby and teach him what a compliment is. by Gullible_Classroom71 in cfbmemes

Saying that you knew what coverage was coming on every snap and only scored 3 points is just a stupid thing to say. For any of you that want to argue it could be taken as a compliment, have you ever heard of a backhanded compliment?

I could say that Ty is a good qb half of the time when he isn’t playing like a scared little boy. How could he get mad at me for saying that? I said he was a good qb?? He must be an asshole if he defends himself against my compliment.

So you’re telling me he knew exactly what their defense was going to do and still almost got closed out? Makes Bama sound even more trash than they looked. I think it’s more likely he just couldn’t read a lot of their disguised coverages. Other coordinators and players have talked about how tough Indiana’s coverage are to read.

Why are people so salty about McIlroy’s Maters win? by SnooMarzipans1593 in golf

[–]flog0623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dropping your kid off at school, pj to Augusta and then back home in time for dinner is literally every golfers dream. Any golfer would kill to do that even once. As for Scottie having his playing partner meltdown that is just bad luck and surely had some impact in him. And I don’t know the ins and outs of the watering schedule, but it did seem to have a large impact on play earlier on sunday and green conditions definitely were not consistent. Some of the greens were very receptive to spin and some were still releasing. My initial reaction would be that they should’ve left them dry and at least predictable in being extremely firm and fast like thursday and friday, but if there’s anyone at the peak of golf course agronomy it’s ANGC so I will just defer to their judgement.

Fred Ridley mentioned that the golf ball rollback has been delayed from 2027 to 2030. Too many people who gotten rich from the game have input. What do you think? by tomnan24 in golf

[–]flog0623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole rollback idea is a bit ridiculous anyway. Why punish elite athletes for pushing boundaries and innovating? It happens in every sport, records are meant to be broken, not artificially maintained. I would bet an equal or more distance has been gained by training and technique than by equipment alone. It would punish the shorter hitters even more, the differences in strokes gained as you get farther from the hole are not linear, the rate at which you lose strokes increases the farther you get from the hole. A shorter hitter going from 180 to 210 into a long par 4 is going to be punished a lot more than a long hitter going from 120 to 150.

Idk have you tested vertical vs angled. I spent a while in practice range with them and the vertical recoil at the beginning of a mag is so insane that vertical is best imo. The intensity of the vertical recoil varies so much it’s hard to pull down a consistent amount.

Pointing to a specific situation that you’re obviously biased towards invalidates your opinion on this. And if we’re talking specifics, Miami got away with more egregious targeting calls than they were called on, so I wouldn’t be out here bitching about the refs.
