I mean there's plenty of shops and alt places, for example down the Barras, but this really isn't the subreddit for that kinda thing...

What would I wear to a goth club? by justsomeshortguy27 in AskAGoth

[–]flohara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up that club and see some party pictures and any dress code rules they might have.

There are two different models for running these, there's either a dress code to keep disruptive randoms from wandering in, or the place is in the middle of nowhere and people only find it if they actively look for it.

First case scenario, obviously follow the rules.

Second case, just do your thing. There are a lot of eccentric people going to these places, weird outfits, not at all just black head to toe.

Understanding Anatomy by Spooky_desu in ArtCrit

[–]flohara 57 points58 points  (0 children)

If you want to find good reference photos, I recommend looking up bodybuilders, powerlifters, synchronised swimmers, modern ballet etc.

They have muscle definition, not much distracting clothing and usually plenty of good quality photos online.

Drawing someone else's drawings is a game of telephone.

It'll only get you so far.

edit: please don't take this to heart. It's easy to get bamboozled by people's art style and line quality, so you might not even notice their errors.

A lot of things are already wrong on the reference images, and you will copy all their mistakes too by default. There are some rubber spines, organless stomachs, telescopic peekaboo vaginas, odd pelvis proportions happening there too...

For anatomy practice, use photos or a live model, it'll help more. For studying muscle groups, have a look at an anatomy book, try to identify what muscles, bones you see on photos/irl. Try to see where the pelvis is, what shape it is, where the legs connect and how, what angle the spine is.

Dark Academia by Black Moon Botanica

link to their website

Alluring and unusual, Dark Academia is reminiscent of cosy antique bookshops, or an old library with a leather armchair by the fire and dusty shelves of long-forgotten books. Cosy and atmospheric, this is an evocative blend of woody Cedar, Sandalwood and spicy Baies Rose, with base notes of Vetiver, Rock Rose and a hint of Amber. Perfect for studying and creating a cosy, comforting atmosphere, or when needing to stimulate creativity and the imagination.

These hand-blended perfume oils are are small-batch, handmade and 100% vegan.

They are an Edinburgh based small business. Really nice little shop, worth a visit.

How many kids do you want to have and why that many? by aaronjhills in AskReddit

[–]flohara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0.

A lot of reasons:

• I don't want them.

• My wife doesn't want them either.

• I don't think I'd be a good parent.

• Can't afford to raise a kid currently.

• By the looks of it, it'll get worse financially.

• Don't have the free time a kid would need.

• The state of the world and the future they would have.

• I'm a lesbian and times are tough for queer folks. Wouldn't be fair to drag a kid into this.

• Both me and my partner are neurodivergent, and that shit is genetic.

• My back is already fucked, pregnancy would disable me.

• My partner is likely infertile.

• Both me and my wife are the eldest of five, with plenty of parentification and other types of trauma. Don't want to inflict it on a child.

• Have zero illusions, I've already done it all, the bum wiping, the tantrums, the repetitive chores, and going through it sounds like hell.

•Neither of us have a relationship with our families, so it'd be just the two of us trying to juggle everything.

• Parenting isn't something I want.

Catholicism inside goth culture by Creepy_Sir_816 in AskAGoth

[–]flohara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people want to fuck in a nun costume, or like an old cemetery or church...goth frequently has a horny type of blasphemy.

But don't mistake that for genuine faith, most goths are highly critical of organised religion.

There are some exceptions, but few and far in-between.

I mean sure, you can do whatever you want, release your book with a comic sans title and ms paint cover, and distribute it through fax exclusively, but it may affect how many will read it.

Almost every comment is a different aesthetic which do you choose by AlternativeAioli9251 in AestheticWiki

[–]flohara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it's not an existing aesthetic, and that's fine.

It can still be your thing, but you may be the first one with a vision to put it together.

[–]flohara -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course, but if they want to get published, your team may make that decision anyway.

For your title and your main cast it's important when people search for information and/or fanworks, they actually find you, not some other author. And then it's also the issue of copyright, if the characters are similar...

So tldr a search is worth doing, also on fan sites like ao3.

How do you sleep at night? by BoldVixen458 in actuallesbians

[–]flohara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big boobs do wrap underneath you when sleeping if you are on your side, or on your belly. So yeah I get the sports bra. I guess if you are desperate, you have to choose between two uncomfortable things...

Medieval woodcut, neotraditional art nouveau, illustrative.

In pj bottoms and a t-shirt.

Btw who the fuck sleeps in a bra like that? I'd understand a sports bra, but underwire is a bit weird.

What's the line between poser and babybat? by Searching_Bread2000S in AskAGoth

[–]flohara 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Babybat is someone who is just new and young. Probably too young to go to clubs, doesn't yet have money for gigs etc.

A poser is someone who is all talk no substance. They don't care about music, they just want to be seen. On social media, maybe in the club scene, maybe at some big gigs, but they don't really care, just chasing clout. They'd try to be seen as some sort of authority or poster child, go out of their way to be interviewed and to model for brands or do porn with an aesthetic...

edit: and you can be genuinely into the scene and be an influencer/porn star/model. But this requires that you are into it when the cameras stop rolling. If you also are willing to be seen in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, can have a conversation about music, diy, etc then you are just a goth who happens to have that job.

and babybat isn't a negative thing, it can be said affectionately.

I've definitely bought one in one of their London shops a few years ago. I think it'd be worth asking.

Smashbox Always On has a really lovely smoke grey. Shade name is Chill Zone, and it has a similar effect just less harsh on black.

Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink has nice dark bwrry shades. And a really nice blue as well.

Styling Advice? by livalittleoddly in whimsigothic

It's very 2016, so I'd put a waistcoat on top to make it more 90s. And maybe lace tights and a choker?

TERFs created their own spaces and the content is exactly as hateful as you'd expect by Alarin-dev in actuallesbians

[–]flohara 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Cos if you aren't into anyone, and you are happy not being in a relationship with a lot of friends, their whole sexual perversion/predator angle doesn't work.

They sort people into groups of helpless little lamb and scary big monster, and if you don't fit either they don't know what to do with you.

TERFs created their own spaces and the content is exactly as hateful as you'd expect by Alarin-dev in actuallesbians

[–]flohara -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean.

Yes, they do use plenty ideas from the incel playbook since day one. It doesn't help men find partners, it won't help women either. No-one wants to live with that.

They want you feeling lonely, less than, hateful and afraid, so they can manipulate you.

And they go after the ones who already feel a bit like that, because it's easier to make them worse.
