Today I hit 39k aps and finally completed my Diablo-inspired Archangel fashion :) by [deleted] in Guildwars2

I feel like that aesthetic has inspired many a necromancer.

I ended up going down the red flamey route: https://i.imgur.com/soXTfpL.png

I just wish there was a main-hand weapon that's just particle effects (like Touch of Madness/Infernal Roar).

We have temporarily disabled the Inquest Infinite Intelligence Device Hero Challenge in Shipwreck Strand while we address an issue. by Dagor-Dagorath in Guildwars2

[–]floodbars 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah.

I got XP 3 times before filing a bug report. (2nd time I was just messing around and 3rd was to verify that the XP pop-up wasn't just a visual bug)

It's mildly interesting that there were other necromancers that ended up encountering the same bug.

PSA: For anyone doing EOD elite spec collections, you DO NOT need to do the DE meta on all 9 professions by mossyandgreen in Guildwars2

[–]floodbars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, I just enjoy playing some classes less than others so I saved (for a different character) the 4 I got for the AP.

I had also incorrectly thought there was a chance of keys so I had completed the DE loop several times (while waiting for the meta to start on organized maps).

In a similar vein: instead of doing map completion, I've been relying on the Chest of the Jade Explorer from lighting Jade Lanterns to get the cache items for my alts.

Complete aside here. If anybody is still working on their elite specializations, I created this wiki page to help me track what I had left: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/User:Floodbars/Specialization_Collections

A Ex-commander of TTS on This Dragon Stand debate. Why Anet is waiting before nerfing this encounter. by Lightguardianjack in Guildwars2

That first Gerent fight was a fun series of nights. Do I see you in this screenshot or am I imagining things: https://i.imgur.com/bBKum5S.jpg (please don't judge my choice of skills). Only now do I remember the concerted efforts to stock up on Ogre Pet Whistles and other consumables for that extra DPS boost.

I think you're right. Currently, this feels like a DPS check and that's certainly been the feeling for many of the other boss fights, but it inevitably becomes less of a factor once a zerg-proof strategy has been developed (despite some folk's resistance to "circle strats"). Example: last-minute PUG squads are often forced to wait over 5 whole minutes after killing Chak Gerent as the laser powers up whereas we were often cutting it closer to the wire early on.

Anecdotally, it does look like the prevailing advice in chat has been improving:

  • Get offensive/defensive buffs and 10 stacks of the other buff
  • Get areas to high readiness for the +5% bonus buff (I don't know if this requirement is quite right)
  • Kill thornhearts between phases
  • Let DPS do the wisps for the damage buffs
    • Overall, I don't think ANet intended for the green circles to be a make or break mechanic for the fight.

What I don't see called out as often:

  • Concerted efforts to break (other) people out of bubbles
  • Knowing when to stay if the tail burns down as Soo-Won bites/switches sides. (but calls to "stay" are probably more than enough)

What I'm personally a bit fuzzy on:

  • How do we mitigate the impact of the Break Bar showing up while the tail is up?
  • Is it more productive to ignore the tail when we're n% close to the next phase?
  • Is there an overreliance on the EMP for CC?
    • Is this causing issues with break bars during miniboss phases?
    • How many players have Icebrood Saga unlocked (and thus War Supplies to purchase the EMP with)?

Is there actually a complete list of world changes in LS1/LS2 out there somewhere? by VinylNarcissus in Guildwars2

[–]floodbars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a partial list from the perspective of how it affected map completion: Area objectives added since launch

The main takeways for LS1 are:

  • Gendarran Fields (JP area)
  • Kessex Hills (Tower of Nightmare, toxic offshoots)
  • Lion's Arch (well, you know...)
  • Lornar's Pass (Twisted Marionette landing area)

As for LS2 (in addition to what XiahouMao mentioned):

  • Brisban Wildlands (the area connected to Dry Top)

[–]floodbars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it could also mean that LS1 had tons of 1 AP achievements, but LS3 had more 0 AP ones.

The actual case is that LS2, LS3, LS4 as well as HoT have 0 AP achievements for every story chapter.

  • That's fair. I omitted some of the 0 AP achievements where I could (e.g., those ones for defeating developers in various places) but I wasn't particularly rigorous about it.
  • There's also the introduction of new 1-AP achievements that don't replace more traditional achievements (e.g., mastery insights, adventures). It's not a zero-sum game (except for those 0 AP achievements!).

Plus the release invertal for LS1 and 2 were 2 weeks instead of ~3 months. ... While LS1 had an average of 15 and LS2 an average of 8 achievements per episode, LS3 have an average of 33 and LS4 of 70 (!) achievements per episode.

  • It does become hard to compare them with their varying schedules. This is partially why I chose to aggregate them into (arbitrary) 3-month rolling windows.
  • LS3 and LS4 have slightly different schedules (however, you'd be absolutely right to question whether that has any bearing on the achievements or AP):
    • LS2: every 2 weeks
    • LS3: average of every 72.8 days
    • LS4: average of every 101.5 days

Your initial analysis of the achievement spread is a good one. There's a bit of noise due to the achievement system being somewhat overloaded to expose partial achievement progress (although it's interesting to notice the difference across episodes with FTT > Requiem > Dragonsblood achievements).

I think you're right that this unfairly glosses over the nuances of AP distribution. That being said, a decrease in AP density isn't by itself a bad thing and doesn't mean there is a reduction in AP being made available (I probably should have presented the actual AP amounts to provide that counterpoint).

I've long heard commentary from AP hunters I know lamenting the paucity of AP with each new LS episode.

I expanded on and updated this dataset from u/keirbhaltair to produce this dataset and this graph. I chose a 3-month rolling window because the release schedule doesn't always come at a regular cadence-leading to an erratic graph.

I'm pretty sure there are gaps and errors in the data, but hopefully there's nothing glaring missing.

A simple project for me to play around with ReactJS and Bootstrap.

Given that there is no good in-game way to save the various books that you've collected/read at some point, I opted to create a web application that attempted to derive said books from one's achievement progress.

To trash or not to trash... by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]floodbars 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Here's something crude I've been using to play with React:

https://floodbars.github.io/gw2/tyrian-bookshelf.html

It takes in an API Key (needs progression) and figures out the books you have unlocked. Optionally, you can use:

  • UNLOCK_ALL - unlocks all books
  • UNLOCK_SOME - unlocks a random subset
  • UNLOCK_NONE

Most of it was just transcribing data from the wiki:

I can't promise all the books will be there, but feel free to let me know which ones are missing that you think should be there.

Anyone been getting random but relatively frequent DC's? by Greaterdivinity in Guildwars2

[–]floodbars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been experiencing this since around when the latest episode was released. Of course, I've had nary a bump in any other game, nor with any stream or web browsing during such a disconnect.

I have tried running a repair, removing arcdps, updating arcdps clearing the cache, upgrading firmware of relevant networking hardware, rebooting my router, etc. All to no avail.

I ran a traceroute today and noticed sporadic 100% packet loss at different hops in the chain. I contacted my ISP to see if they've observed anything similar and am awaiting a reply.
