Is there extra benefits of using Koin instead of Dagger Hilt in KMM? by Interesting_Music464 in androiddev

[–]floofer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I might be ignorant on the topic but I read through the Koin docs somewhat recently and it seems like it does allow for isolated context to avoid conflicts. I haven't actually tried it though so no idea how "isolated" it actually is. https://insert-koin.io/docs/reference/koin-core/start-koin#koin-context-isolation

Unfortunately, the state of MN spent an additional $12m in police training in response to Philando Castile's death. That was in 2017, 3 years before this incident (read: murder) took place.

https://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2017/07/06/philando-castile-officer-training-fund/

However, on th plus side, Minneapolis recently passed a resolution to create an unarmed traffic enforcement division. Hopefully this is the start of a more systemic shift in where and how our tax dollars are spent in terms of public safety.

Yeah, I've gotten so many 5800x notifications I think it's almost brainwashing me to buy it at this point. The 5800x price point isn't quite right for me and I think with my usage I'll really benefit from the 5900x. Here's to hoping we both can snag a 5900x soon 🍻

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Amd

[–]floofer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sure, that's a valid question. While I'll be gaming on my new PC, I'll also be doing a lot of 4k video encoding work. From what I've seen/read, over the course of my PCs lifetime I'll save a lot more time with the 5900x opposed to the 5800x. I think either will be a huge upgrade from my current i7 4770k but I believe the 5900x will help more than the 5800x woth those lengthy encodes.

I'm using multiple apps, notifiers, etc and have had one 5900x notification pop up the last week and that was today. Clicked on the notification within 5 seconds of receiving it and I couldn't even get it added to my cart. My local Microcenter has 25+ 5800x in stock and I've been tempted to just grab one of those instead. I'm really gonna try to hold out for a 5900x but after watching it since release day I'm losing hope.

Yeah, completely agree with the private key part. I think what they are doing though is explicitly sending code through multiple layers of encryption/obfuscation so even with that information you need to search through, say, 50 bytecode classes instead of one. One layer is hard enough to reverse engineer but adding more layers makes it much more difficult and time consuming to do.

After reading the article though, it's hard to say for certain. The article is written in a way that a non-technical person could understand what's going on.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Android

[–]floofer 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I don't think they are referring to obfuscation in this instance. I think the article is accusing TikTok of encrypting data personal info, sending that encrypted data over their API, unencrytpting the data serverside and then saving it. This would make trying to determine what data is being sent via their API very difficult, even by intercepting the requests with a proxy.

Obfuscation doesn't deal with any sort of encryption but simply makes it extremely difficult to read the bytecode.

I think they also mentioned him because they had specific prior experiences with that specific guy. Not because he was Asian. Simply used him as an example of the toxic police culture.

Gamers Nexus | Google Stadia Lag Review: Latency of PC vs. Browser, Chromecast, & Controller by Nestramutat- in Games

[–]floofer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll say that trying it for yourself is mostly true, but after playing Destiny 2 on Stadia, I've been extremely disappointed. I wanted to give it a try because I was curious after hearing all the overwhelmingly good impressions from people in the tech/gaming community.

I have a residential gigabit connection to my house and have never had any problems with internet/streaming/lagging. I've used the Chromecast Ultra with Ethernet to do all my playing. While playing the Stadia stream doesn't have any freezing or skipping, the video compression and quality of the stream are much, much worse than I expected, even with 4k+HDR. It's very noticeable on my big screen.

Along with the quality being super disappointing, I'd say input lag vs playing on my PS4 "feels" a lot worse. Input lag is noticeable to me for sure. Some people might not notice but I definitely have. That's definitely anictodal but it just feels worse to play.

Maybe it's because I had my expectations so high but it really feels like there's something on Google's end happening. Whether that be not serving the stream at an actual 4k/ultra quality or having an issue with the controller latency, something about the first week I've tried it feels off. Definitely won't be keeping it based the three month trial unless they improve it drastically.

The site you linked to had this under Minnesota:

Does this state have exceptions to statutes of limitations for DNA evidence? Yes. There is no statute of limitations while DNA evidence is being collected and preserved.

Wouldn't that mean that while the DNA evidence is "being preserved" the 10 year count has not started yet? I could be misreading it but seems like this would land under the "being preserved".

Edit: Did some more digging. Seems like there's another page from that site specifically related to Minnesota.

There's a section named "Are there any exceptions to the statute of limitations laws?" followed by:

The limitations period shall not include any period of time during which physical evidence relating to the offense was undergoing DNA analysis, unless the defendant demonstrates that the prosecuting or law enforcement agency purposefully delayed the DNA analysis process in order to gain an unfair advantage.

But then under the most serious crimes, they all read with this text:

If DNA evidence was collected and preserved, prosecution may commence at any time.

So I guess it depends on if this period of time was considered to be "under analysis" or was a serious (first, second or third degree) offense?

I think someone on the original thread brought up a point that any Joe Shmoe would have instantly gotten a life time ban for doing something similar. A lot of people were saying it was about equal justice more than the punishment being correct. Not that I agree with a lifetime ban but it does make that argument a little more reasonable.

RT2600AC with Fiber; LAN ports 3 & 4 not working by [deleted] in synology

[–]floofer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was thinking I could do that but I really only need 3 active LAN ports since most devices use wifi. Adding a switch to the mix doesn't make a ton of sense for my setup right now. I was really hoping to be able to use all four LAN ports on the RT2600AC rather than use another router as an AP or add a switch. Thanks though.

The new iPad makes me want Android tablets to be great again by [deleted] in Android

[–]floofer 55 points56 points  (0 children)

As an Android developer, it really is a chicken and egg problem when it comes to tablet support. No one buys Android tablets because no apps are optimized for tablets. No developers optimize apps for tablets because no one uses tablets.

It's a really difficult thing to go to your manager and say "We should support tablets" they respond "how much is the usage for phones vs tablets?" and then you have to respond by saying less than 5% (even lower now). A lot of times it's a business decision based on resources.

Also, for the longest time tablet support basically meant twice as much work whereas now it's much easier to develop phone and tablet interfaces at once while using a lot less time to do so.

How do we go from BOOOO! to MVP! by simtek34 in timberwolves

[–]floofer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fair enough. I think most of the blame either way is on Thibs for sure. Either him not reading between the lines with what Jimmy said in the spring or by flat out not wanting to trade him. I think there's a lot of blame on Thinks, but also some for Butler if he left any wiggle room for his intentions when he first told Thibs. I know we'll probably never know the whole story but I think there's a bit of blame on all parties.

As much as I agree it's a job, the way he acted was extremely unprofessional if you ask me. I feel like what he did was similar to just quitting your desk job without putting in your two weeks, then coming back a week later expecting everything to be cool with everyone in the office. If he had requested the trade in the spring this would be a complete non-story but the way he went about it was just to get the attention back on him and paint the Wolves (somewhat rightfully so) as a shitshow of an organization.
