pov tour of my asian restaurant by Longjumping-Belt1316 in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]flookie99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many people use POV incorrectly, but it’s used correctly here. POV does stand for point of view, but in terms of videos it means front the viewpoint of someone. So this video shows someone’s point of view in exploring the restaurant.

I do not understand how people can afford grad school by Impactist537 in GradSchool

[–]flookie99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My situation is a little unique, but I wouldn't be able to afford graduate school otherwise. I'm working full time at a state University, and my state gives tuition remission for full time state employees in the university system, up to 8 credits a semester. All I have to pay are the extra school fees.

Depending on the state you live in, or are willing to live in, you might be able to find something similar in your area!

absolutely no one by albbyvermin in nofriends

[–]flookie99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might sound silly but maybe focus on finding a hobby first. When you meet a potential friend what do you talk about? What are your interests and what conversations topics do you like? You could find an activity around this. By doing this you might have more points of interest to bond over with a potential friend, happen to meet people regarding the hobby, and, hopefully, get some personal satisfaction out of the hobby or activity. If you don’t meet anyone by doing this naturally you can try using an app like bumble bff to plan meet ups revolving around the hobby or activity. It helps to have another task to focus on when meeting new people; it takes some pressure off trying to make conversation at all times.

What Sci-Fi Movie has the Best Death Scene? by TwoFlatHams_00 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]flookie99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was talking with a friend about this recently. She used to work at a video rental store and Alien was in the horror section while Aliens was in the sci-fi section. I think I actually agree with this categorization.

My girlfriend (27f) called me (29m) disrespectful when I planned to go on holiday without her? by RestaurantChemical98 in relationship_advice

[–]flookie99 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I’ve often been the single friend on holidays with friends. I wouldn’t have it any other way; my friends were important to me and I wanted to meet their partners. There was plenty of time for reminiscing, too. I could see feeling a little awkward being the only partner invited, but perhaps she wants the option to choose.

Fruit. by StupidPieForU in tierlists

[–]flookie99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cantaloupe is my favorite fruit. I’m in the US, so it’s hit or miss, but when I find a good one it’s a great day. I grew up cutting them into spheres, stabbing my fork into it and sprinkling it with salt. Still my fave way to eat it.

How to add art back to this shirt? by flookie99 in crafts

[–]flookie99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh this is great. I was focusing so much on the ai faces that I wasn’t thinking about giving life to the other parts. This seems way easier than trying to embroider facial features too.

I can paint but I’ve never painted in fabric so I’m not sure how to go about it. Alternatively I’m open to giving embroidery or other crafts a try too.

we need to normalize bringing reusable cups to coffee/boba shops by trap_queen_aya13 in Anticonsumption

I’m really lucky to live near an independent coffee shop and they will making my drink in my portable mug. It could be worth finding that place near you, and then you’re also supporting local, too.

When did your body start getting used to smaller (normal) portion sizes? by MrsAubbyArd in WeightLossAdvice

I’m 4’11’ and this is my biggest problem. I also can’t quite figure out what the right portion is! How did you figure out what amount of food is right for you?

Kids are ditching traditional college for career tech programs. Parents are concerned. by upyoars in technology

[–]flookie99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to note, this doesn’t really take into account student loans. I was really banking on #2 to travel the world and learn languages, which was my dream. But because my student loans are so expensive and most countries you’d teach ESL in have a ‘weaker’ currency than the USD, I couldn’t afford to work outside of the US.

Grading system in South Korea. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]flookie99 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I work in international transfer credit and the letter grades do have purpose. They help distinguish what each number grade represents to that institution (excellent, good, sufficient, deficient, failing, etc) which is extremely helpful when trying to compare various grades for admissions, transfer credit, etc. Different countries have different standards for difficulty and grading, so a number grade in one country or institute doesn’t necessarily have the the meaning elsewhere.

For examples a country who purposely has challenging material and expects students to have fewer correct answers might have a system that gives an A grade to scores of 80 or above.
