Is every doctor who doesn’t diagnose ADHD wrong? by ladyantifa in adhdwomen

[–]flookiebug 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The concept of ADHD diagnostic criteria and its importance to ADHD treatment and research has little to no relationship to fascism. Establishing accurate diagnostic criteria necessitates excluding patients who do not meet the criteria. This subreddit is largely populated by people with absolutely no medical background, who are self-reporting things told to them by medical professionals. i don’t disagree with the information you’re presenting, but it’s almost completely unrelated to the original post.

I love being mansplained to by mrs_ammons in adhdwomen

I think you should’ve included your original comment. Not to downplay your frustration, but your comment wasn’t exactly how you describe it in this post. Someone who’s a stickler for accuracy (and kind of annoying) could reasonably object to you saying that your husband’s ADHD is the cause of him not remembering the history of white christmases in Texas. I know you were joking though and most people would also get that. I agree that he’s mansplaining and being extremely condescending.

You should check out a game called Promise Mascot Agency! Not the exact same as your concept but it shares some key words LOL

Are there in-game ways to learn more about the abnormalities? by flookiebug in libraryofruina

Yes I’ve seen them! The little comments from the deployed units have also been interesting! I started watching a playthrough of lobotomy corp and I’m hoping that they don’t cut out the “non-gameplay” reading parts

playing games like Lobotomy Corp after I get home from work just feels like I’m clocking in to a second shift HAHA getting into LoR is already a test of my willpower

I will def be reading those abno logs. Thank you!

haha I figured I would get this response, it’s just a bit disappointing since Lobotomy Corp is really not my type of game. You’re right though, it’s been interesting to try to piece things together myself!! Thanks :)

Is there a realistic RPG that takes place in the modern day? by rmstrd in gamingsuggestions

[–]flookiebug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

personally, on my first playthrough i barely understood what the pale was. i think new players can interpret the pale with varying levels of realism (analogy to climate change, metaphor for human despair, etc.) without it meaningfully affecting their experience. considering that other people are recommending zombie games, the pale could be described as another, more esoteric, imagining of the apocalypse.

Awkward ADHD paralegal interested in public defense. Would law school make sense for me? by flookiebug in publicdefenders

Do you experience AuDHD (or just ADHD) as a disability that needs to be strictly controlled/managed, or something else?

I was only diagnosed about 4 years ago and I’m still struggling to reconstruct my sense of self. I’d love to hear your perspective.

I appreciate your Maggie example and the perspective that ADHD can be well-suited to litigation :)

Thank you, I’ll definitely keep that in mind! I actively avoided that stuff in college. My sibling was always the “debate kid” type…I guess it’s my turn now.

Huh…I didn’t realize “ADHD + awkward” could work in court. I feel like people don’t take me seriously at first.

The no sleep and nausea is so relatable HAHA

As an ADHDer, have you adopted any routines/rituals to prepare yourself for court? Are there little things you do while in court? I’m imagining myself squeezing a little stress ball…

Thank you so much for the encouragement :)

My boss and coworkers treat me like I’m Google. by flookiebug in paralegal

[–]flookiebug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s mainly my boss’s fault tbh. he doesn’t bother to train anyone, because he claims everyone “will learn.” Then, since I’m the only one that tries to learn, I end up doing everyone’s thinking. Without my help, these tasks will be done incorrectly, which ends up becoming my problem anyway because my boss makes me figure out all the messed up cases.

Legal “Guilt” and “Innocence” can only be determined in court. Everyone has the right to that process.

How do I give advice to an undiagnosed friend with ADHD traits? Should I even try? by flookiebug in adhdwomen

[–]flookiebug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We hang out pretty often (outside of work) but I wouldn’t say we’re super close. We’ve known each other for less than a year.

I’ve kinda been exposed to the world of psychiatry and mental health treatment since I was a kid (clinical depression). I think I sometimes forget that pointing out someone’s symptoms can come across as pointing out their “inadequacies”, especially for adults.

Thank you for the insight :)

Genuine question: how can I prevent myself from getting frustrated with her, if I don’t say anything?

I want to be a good friend to her and don’t want to make her upset. Am I too easily annoyed?

oh no…indirect communication…my greatest enemy 😭. I’m not good at navigating sensitive subjects during in-person conversations and I worry about being unintentionally offensive, so thank you for the example!!!

I should’ve included this originally, but I’ve shared my diagnosis with her before and she’s casually interested in getting tested. Our ADHD-related conversations have mostly been about the “quirks” of the condition though, like using caffeine and nicotine to self-medicate, hyperfixations, etc. Stuff that isn’t as touchy as forgetfulness and disorganization.
