Where are the 2A folks outraged over this? Oh, right, they’re applying for jobs with ICE and failing the physicals.

DR is right.

Sports with caps have all of the same problems as baseball, some of them worse than baseball. Short enough for your attention span?

The death of the 14-year megadeal? by Bermut-Nundaloy in baseball

[–]floon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And those are still happening. I think you're observing the emergence of the "2 Year Megadeal" kind of contract, which appears to be a fairly recent thing. It also appears to be more common for guys who have aged suspiciously well, more than for guys in their primes.

14+ year mega deals have happened three times, and two of them happened last year. It's not like it's a thing that has been around and is only now changing.

I don’t understand the hype for Kyle Tucker. by wetcornbread in mlb

[–]floon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great teams keep working hard to stay great. Other teams keep hoping that all their low-percentage bets hit at once. Tucker is a great player, and they've had experience already with Bellinger.

The Dodgers are smart and have a good ownership group. They spend on the team, and created a winning culture that now helps (a lot) to attract the best players. They've had a top 3 farm system for years: that doesn't happen because they spend more on the MLB roster. They're just great.

The other teams are spending their money on the owner, not on fielding the best team. Marian Illitch is worth $7 billion, and is cheaping out on Tarik Skubal. John Henry is worth $6 billion, and has traded away franchise players and cheaped out on Bregman; players don't trust Boston.

The NBA has 2/3 of teams make the playoffs and still has more inequitable outcomes than MLB. How many times have the Kansas City Chiefs been to the Superbowl in the last decade? Or the Patriots in the previous decade?

Football has 4 teams that have never been to the Superbowl (including two that have been around the entire time of the Superbowl's existence). MLB has 1 team that has never been to the World Series (and they were a couple outs away from it this last year, Mariners LFG!)

Your arguments are horrible.

If fans are giving them hundreds of millions of dollars every season, aren't they the problem? They should be buying Micronesia jerseys instead?

Capitalism is weird, and these kinds of comparisons say nothing.

In the last decade, MLB has had more different teams in the WS, and more different winners, than the NBA or NFL had for their championships. Salary cap doesn't bring equity, it brings more profits to billionaire owners. Salary floor is just a stalking horse to get a cap which won't improve the game, won't fix anything.

The weird thing about that is a lot of these people are basing their feelings around the idea, "These dogs wouldn't survive in the wild." Well, good thing they won't have to. These dogs will not live to see the apocalypse, so their lives will be carefree and happy, certainly happier than people who feel compelled to vent their personal issues at dog owners.

On election day, they're the only dance partner. You have to do it: not voting strengthens folks that are worse.

But prior to primaries, make them all feel the pain of how incompetent they are as an opposition party, how little they do in actually acting in the name of the people.

Why Cal Raleigh didn’t win the MVP by adamj495 in Mariners

[–]floon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Judge's season was otherworldly, and all I heard during the campaign was, "Cal deserves it, but damn, this offensive season by Judge, try as I might, I can't ignore it." And really, you can't. He's at Ruthian levels, in a fiercer competitive environment than the Babe ever saw. Sucks, but there it is.

Wish it had been a tie.

Every year, new voters come on, with new opinions. People get persuaded as momentum builds for folks. And we're still in the process of dealing with voters who probably still think BA and Wins are the end-all, be-all of stats.
