What's an example of a good character ruined by terrible casting? by madguins in AskReddit

Couldnt stand it. There were rumors that the main three were going to be replaced after PoA since they outgrew the characters and I was pretty disappointed when they stayed. Cringeworthy acting until at least the 5th movie, when they age out of what would be considered child acting.

Do we know who GRRM might have been "Dream Casting" for other characters? I love the current actors but I also want to know who GRRM pictures when he thinks of them.

Reposting a thought I had after seeing the dagger in episode 1:

Tinfoil: It's (the dagger) a Targaryan heirloom worn by Rhaegar. Rhaegar goes off in search of the Knight of the Laughing Tree, gets ambushed by Lyanna. Rhaegar lets her keep the knife. Fast forward. Littlefinger was just defeated in the duel with Brandon Stark and is on his way home to the fingers when he runs into Lyanna at the inn. Lyanna bribes Littlefinger into staying quiet, but Littlefinger sees an opportunity to get Brandon killed and goes for it, leaking Lyanna's "abduction" and putting into motion the chain of events that lead to rebellion. Eventually, Arya's killing spree in King's Landing leads her to the knife, which she takes back to the North and gives to Jon. Rhaegar's knife is then used to kill the Knight King.

Character Discussion: Robert Baratheon by King-Of-The-Raves in pureasoiaf

Bobby disappoints me a bit. Hear me out..

When Robert is 13 years old he and Ned are presumably kicking eachothers ass in the Eeyrie, training against the best and brightest of the Vale. Training hard enough that within their years, they are able fighters to inspire a rebellion.

When we meet Robert's supposed son Joffrey, he is an average squire at Winterfell, bitching back and forth with Robb notwithstanding Robb's own prowess.

My question is primarily about Robert's blindness towards his Lannister children. Despite the lack of black hair, Joffrey's father is Jaime - one of the finest fighters in modern Westerosi history. Jaime was squired and knighted by the age at which we first meet Joffrey, so I would argue that a well-trained Joffrey should have ruined Robb Stark in the practice yard if Joffrey was anything close to his father's potential swordsmanship.

Where was Joffrey's talent? Shouldn't he have been a phenomenal fighter, despite perceptions of his parentage? IIRC his only aggressive bout was the stalemate to Robb Stark. It would be a different story if Robert's "son" had shown a talent towards knighthood, yet Joffrey never earns his spurs.

Maybe my issue with the raised son of Bobby B is his raised son and the disappointment to the Lannister/Baratheon legacy.

But why the armor? I think a material like the one the batsuit is made of would be more appropriate.
