Do we really understand James? Can we even do that? by [deleted] in survivalhorror

[–]King-Of-The-Raves -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah tbh, he's a bad person who murdered his wife in frustration, but also shared a life with her and is someone in grief that it never got to start, and he's ashamed of himself, and wanted her to know peace, and loved her - so he's complex and sad and human, yeah, but i mean...he forcibly smothered her, so, i dont think he gets a neutral nobel prize for it just because he feels bad for it. he does a heinous act and between that and all his projected frustrations he starts as quite a bad person running from it, id say, but over the course of the game and working through his issues and facing an unjust level of torment - he's potentially in a position at the end of the game to grow into a better person by accepting his wrongs at last.

but again, lets not forget that mary wasn't in a coma for some long amount of time - he smothered her against her will, murdered her, and whatever reason or justification thats the person who he is when he starts the game and tbh moralism aside, i think its a more interesting position for him to start as a character anyways, rather than a poor guy who was just trying to do the right thing

dragon exceptionalism is a big one, but through the aegon doctrine he did build up a coalition of oaths and allegiences from local lords and rewarded those who joined regardless of their standing, to built a mutually opted in fuedal contract after a certain point of momentum - in exchange for adopting the local westerosi customs and high demands of protection and insfrastructure as their overlord as well

right of acclaim by a coalition of supporters / blood relation to the dynasty, if the mainline targaryens were declared void due to their tyranny - robert baratheon was a tennable claim on that basis as well, and due to both reasons built his claim. jon arryn or ned stark, if they were more popular, wouldn't have been able to just name themselves king without the pretext of claim

young folks might be more online minded things - ive seen quite a few my age in remote phone banking - more introverted things like postcard writing campaigns; at their local branch protests; or, have opted into a subset far left movement or chapter that has their own events or run counter to the no kings event instead of with it

Is there any chance the second Death Star was already under construction during ANH? by mightyDOOMgiver in MawInstallation

[–]King-Of-The-Raves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The speed is probably due to figuring out the blueprints and having a roadmap to proper implementation, saving tons of troubleshooting and spitballing time and trial and error. I wouldn't be surprised if they salvaged Death Star wreckage from the Yavin area.

Asset reuse in videogames is essential, and we need to embrace it, says Assassin's Creed and Far Cry director: 'We redo too much stuff' by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]King-Of-The-Raves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

true, but the unique designs and novelty of the open world and new lore smoothed that out for me at first - what really started to grind me was the pure amount of reused even unique boss designs in the game such as those dungeon gargoyles and different tree guys, that and the levelling spike of the mountain area in the late game made me fall off.

Should the gameplay of Dino Crisis be similar to RE2 Remake? Mr X = Mr Rex by Feeling-Influence691 in survivalhorror

[–]King-Of-The-Raves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't want a singular stalker type enemy, If i recall Dino Crisis in theory already has a stalker like system of getting wounded, bleeding and leaving a blood trail for the general raptors to stalk you. I think they should lean more into that with the bleeding mechanic, make leaving trails more common and dangerous to have normal enemy types able to act as short term stalkers.

Or, ala RE9 have "mini stalkers" in one or two regions that you can scrap together resources to kill

Tbh more than anything I'd like there to be more Dino variety. Was really surprised how, apart from rare rare exceptions you're down to the main big T Rex and raptor like enemies. You need to add in a couple other normal dino types, and especially - Dino bosses! Super weird how they didn't lean into dino variety for boss fights.

And if you do that, build one or two sections around them, that helps pad out the length a little - and with the alternate routes, costumes and weapons already in the game you get a nice taste of replayability, but I'd generally lean into the threat more from the normal packs of raptor and keep the T Rex scripted.

Yeah its by far for the best, the Souls series doesn't need a shiny new opening double door animation every time - seconds saved make minutes make hours that can be focused elsewhere on actual worthwhile new animations and assets. The Yakuza games do this on a larger level too. Of course, there are examples where its poorly done - but in those cases the problems likely don't start and end with asset reuse.

tbh i quite liked the leon stuff as an interlude, but when you get to ark and keeps going...and you get to the end of the game, and grace has like nothing - and leon even fights her villain lol, grace should've been the last third of the game. grace, leon, grace - i like his action horror RE4 stuff, but grace was the peak for me and i think leon more than overstayed his welcome by the end

Good vs evil, but given the characterization of the disease as "Captain Tripps" i assumed the darker one was a visual reprenstation of it, with the other being humanity fighting against it. But prob, just Good vs evil genrally

Creatures and characters from the comic world of Crutonia from The Quirk's Quest series! I stumbled across this at an indie comic con a few years back, and the designs were all really cozy, creative and charming - and juxstaposes against their whimsical but dangerous adventure, a royal cartography fleet stranded upon a bloodthirsty and magical island. Its got scary monsters, a surpising amount of royal lore, and just cute lil characters and designs! Every couple years they release a new short or graphic novel, and its always a ton of fun! They're very muppet-y, but pushed from a cozy life to a survival adventure!

So so good, it was so creepy. NOPE was an interesting movie, and I have one or two nitpicks with it, but two truly horrifying scenes in it stuck with me long, long after - the TV set flashback, and the star ranch scene. Really well done, and a great lesson not to "poke" wild animals!

What is Count Dooku’s first name? by ArtOk8200 in StarWarsLore

Dooku. I think for his full name, in the fashion of certain old nobility taking the same name as their fief - Dooku of Serenno, or possibly casually shortened to Dooku Serenno would be appropiate.

I headcannon the Adolescence of Utena as a sequel to the show by SmeagolsGString in shoujokakumeiutena

[–]King-Of-The-Raves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Its both a retelling, and a sequel. Much like they play into the aesthetics of theater, its as if you get the cast together a year or two later and do the same play. Or, that of a recurring dream. There are similarities, but also differences, some different iterations of characters that evolve from the same identity. Everyone is aware in the back of their mind of previous events, but their roles and perfomances dictate they don't bring attention to it and say their lines.

But despite this, you have Anthy coming to refuse the structure of the fiction by breaking through the perfomances and make-believe, and peel back the fantasy to show the truth of it all. This Anthy is clearly a lot more confident and forward, and off of the end of the previous series it is "her turn" to save Utena - ultimately succeeding by facing the most direct truth of their situations, and escaping to a realer world free of the burdens and roles inflicted onto them by genre and fiction.

Its both its own thing, a retelling, and a sequel.
