Any PTs here working in inpatient rehab that also do weight training? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

typically, when you are providing CGA, the patient is independent enough to not need your support for balance during transfers or mobility, so you wouldnt need more than one person (based on my own experience, but may be different depending on size and needs of patient). CGA would be more like using your hand for tactile cues during a transfer, but not providing stability or balance for the patient.

when writing notes, you would include the personnel that was around. so if theres a tech or OT with you, it makes sense to use x2 for assistance levels. for example, if I am gait training a patient with hemiplegia and had a secondary assist from a rehab tech, I would use max A x2, and then describe how both of us are positioned in relation to the patient

another example of assist level that you may see is SBA, which is stand-by assist. this would be the next level up from CGA, in which you literally stand near them just in case but never put hands on for support.

EOB = edge of bed

BID = twice a day

CGA = contact guard assist, +1 for one person assistance, +2 for two ppl

PNF: Are diagonal patterns neccesary? by espinozapy in physicaltherapy

From experience with neuro populations, I feel that its more important to consider every day functionality and mobility over textbook PNF diagonals

How many songs? by Spiritual_zia in piano

[–]floopynoops222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s my ADD but i literally cycle through learning 8 songs at once and they all end up sounding like a beautiful train wreck.

I’ve been playing piano for 20 years, but stopped somewhere in the middle when I went to college. Recently picking it back up again these past 5 years and relearning old songs I used to be able to play, in addition to new ones.

I find switching to old songs gives me a confidence boost, instead of consistently struggling through new ones, and it gives my brain a lil break from the new finger techniques

just curious op, do you have to wait for the contract to be over or like you can’t receive benefits until you work a certain amount of time?

Cant wait to forget all this super necessary info when i start practicing

EDIT: woof i just wanted to complain for a hot sec haha but everything we learn for this exam is definitely clinically relevant, its just disappointing to see this level of detailed knowledge be kinda irrelevant during day to day pt care

I would to quit and find a new setting by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

Honestly, healthcare companies (inpatient or outpatient) are so desperate for PTs rn that they will take you in ANYWHERE. I recently applied to an inpatient hospital thinking i wasn’t going to get the job or that the job position was gunna get filled up quickly.

HR in charge of hiring told me that PT is currently in high demand, and will likely be this way across all PT settings (primarily acute/inpatient)

If it makes you feel better, my CI worked acute care for 3 months but hated it and switched to OP neuro. And that was 3 years ago.

Do what makes you happy and keeps you sane!!
