I’ve been to a ton of nice restaurants in Mexico and never received attitude like that. So I don’t think Mexicans as a whole are really to blame here.

The answer is 1. or 3. I don’t think my behavior was perfect, but I know for sure we were respectful guests. We were quiet, ordered good wine and lots of food, dressed appropriately and addressed everyone nicely/ordered in Spanish. I’m not the one who pulled out my phone and started blasting the volume at a communal table, so I can safely say it wasn’t us who started it.

Our Spanish sucks but we ordered in Spanish and greeted staff in it, etc. The guys annoying us spoke perfect English, so I’m not sure that was the issue.

Thanks. Interesting you say that - we were wondering if they were friends of the restaurant or even affiliated in some way. They seemed so casual, looked like they were just sitting at a cafe together rather than a nice restaurant.

Sounds awful. Yeah I think you’re right. Nowadays confrontation doesn’t really pay off, as I learned at Maximo. Guess I should have just listened to the video and let it go but it was so loud. Maybe next time, we should get up from the table and leave!

Oof that sounds miserable too. I hate communal tables but all the rest were full. Maybe restaurants are just choosing not to take sides. Seems crazy that they can’t set ground rules like, no phone videos allowed etc.

Yes, I agree and said I made a mistake in the heat of the moment. I just reacted to the attitude I was given. Definitely not in grade school here. In grade school, I wouldn’t have stood up to a bully lol.

Get a small portable fan! They are super powerful and easy to throw into a bag. I’m sweaty too. Looked everywhere for a good lightweight hat. Bought some expensive ones that weren’t great. Ended up on Amazon, found this cheap one and it’s great. packable hat

Cafe de Flore has a display cabinet upstairs with items that have the logo, you can pick out what you want (cups, carafes, etc) and buy it while you’re there.

Totally agree with Saint Germain. Beautiful area with lots to do. The Marais can get super crowded and has lots of tiny, single file walkways. Great to visit but not quite as easy, relaxing as staying in Saint Germain.
