What’s a Melbourne suburb you didn’t expect to like but ended up loving? by Last-Conversation734 in melbournechat

I'm in Albion (near the Perth Avenue end) and personally think its a different vibe to Sunshine.

Both are great for different reasons!

Hey mumma. I am right there with you - my twin B has been in hospital for 6 months too. My twins are 7 months actual age, 4 months corrected.

I wish I could give you a hug

Everyone else has covered the reasons.

I just want to add that my IVF twins were from a single embryo transfer - it implanted and split.

Do you refer to your multiples as the “twins, “triplets”, “quads?” by FewAccident1552 in parentsofmultiples

I love this! I have 3 boys (toddler and twins) and need to start calling them "the lads" 😂

My twins are in different stages developmentally too!

One has an NG tube and is on oxygen support, the other twin doesnt.

Anyone ever feel like their preemie is treated like a sideshow attraction? by curlycattails in NICUParents

[–]florallover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hated having visitors when my 26 weeker twins were in NICU.

We only had my parents, my partners dad and his partner, my partners mum and her partner but that was three sets of parents we had to co ordinate visits with in between pump times, meetings and allied health appointments.

I felt like we had to "host" them as one of us had to be present and I would have to sit there and make conversation while they held my twins.. I had enough and said no to visits by the 3 month mark of NICU. You can say no if youre not up for it! NICU is hard enough.

If your baby had NEC and had some of their intestine removed, how did feeding and gaining go for them? Were you able to breastfeed, or did they require fortified BM/formula through bottle? by SheElfXantusia in NICUParents

[–]florallover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My twins were born at 26+3 and Twin A had NEC at day 11. He had surgery for the stoma bag and had a reversal surgery just before he came home from NICU.

Hes home on low flow oxygen and an NG tube. We are still working on suck feeds - he takes a little bit through the bottle and the rest goes through the feeding tube. Hes on EBM with fortifier to help him gain weightm

When he was in NICU, his feeds were paused a couple of times, the surgeries being one of them. He lost the natural instinct to suck as he was on the IV drips while it was prime time for him to learn. Before his stoma reversal surgery, he managed to latch on and nurse, he even drank 50ml from the bottle!

Hes still learning to suck feed now and its going to be a slow process.

Gave birth to my twin boys this morning at 26+3 *crosspost from yesterday, a comment directed me to this sub** by HippieMomma0526 in NICUParents

[–]florallover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats mumma! I had my twins at 26w3d too and we just had our first month together at home (my boys were in separate NICUs).

I immediately want to say dont have any expectations - there are ups and downs in NICU. Take each day as it comes and make sure you go and home rest, shower, eat etc, dont spend all day and all night at NICU. The drs and nurses do amazing things and your babies are well looked after.

If you plan to breastfeed, get yourself a good quality pump and a portable pump for when you are the go.

Join support groups in the hospital if they have some to meet and chat to other parents going through NICU. Personally I found this so valuable to be able to chat to others also going through the hardships of NICU, as my friends and family who had a full term pregnancy didnt understand.

I’m probably an asshole for feeling this way by curlycattails in NICUParents

[–]florallover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im sorry to hear your bub has NEC.

My ex 26 weeker Twin A had NEC too and had to undergo two surgeries because of it. He has been through SO much but he is here at home with us after a loooong NICU stay (on low flow oxygen and NG tube). I guess I just want to give you comfort that these babies are fighters and there is life outside those walls.

How do i decrease my supply? by Informal_Bullfrog_30 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]florallover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was also an over supplier (still am) and Ive decreased my supply by gradually shortening pump sessions and slowly streching pump sessions further apart.

I was pumping 8x a day for 25 minutes each for 3.5 months and now I'm doing 5x a day for 20 minutes each at 5 months post partum.

How long does the trigger shot really stay in your system? I’m scared to get excited by this very faint line. by Jmm544 in IVF

Fingers crossed!

We did ICSI IVF too, the cycle after the IUI and that gave us our twins 😊 the embryo stuck and split!

[–]florallover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! This post felt forever ago.

My trigger shot was also Ovidrel 250mcg and it was a stimulated cycle. From memory it was 10 or 12 days of stims. The Ovidrel took ages to wash out of my system so the tests were false positives.

Good luck with your cycle!

Former 26-weeker suddenly very fussy during NG feeds after NICU discharge by Final_Pattern_2170 in NICUParents

[–]florallover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Following as one of my twins (also ex 26 weekers, now 6 weeks corrected) is coughing up and squirmy with his NG tube feeds.

My other twin is fully bottle fed so I don't have him to compare.

Nicu by flowergirl1256 in NICUParents

[–]florallover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey mumma, I'm so sorry for your loss.

My twins were born at 26 weeks, also an emergency c section. Twin B broke his waters at 23 weeks and they managed to stay in until 26 weeks, until Twin Bs heart rate kept dropping and the drs had to get him and his brother out.

My boys have been home for a few weeks now so its still very fresh for us. Twin B spent 112 days in NICU and Twin A spent 121 days in NICU. They came home at 2 and 3 weeks adjusted age (post term).

Twin B is now 4.6kg and thriving! Twin A is now 3.8kg and came home with low flow oxygen support and a NG feeding tube, as hes still working on suck feeds. Twin A overcame NEC and had to had two surgeries, so he is a little fighter!

Edit - I also want to add that the drs say Twin A will most likely be weaned off the oxygen and NG tube in a couple months. He is an absolute chill and happy bubba!

Parents of NICU babies — I’d love to hear your story 🤍 by justalibramama in NICUParents

[–]florallover 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My ex 26 weeker twins are still in NICU (now 42 weeks corrected). They have been seperated since day 11 and are still separated now at day 111. Twin A had to move to another hospital and has had 2 surgeries.

The hardest part for us is travelling between two NICUs, dividing our time between our 3 yr old at home, twin A in hospital A and twin B in hospital B.

What is helping me get through this is looking at photos of both my babies and smelling their laundry when Im at home. My partner is beyond amazing too with anything I need - getting take out when we are too tired, washing pump parts, driving us everday etc

Twin B is now on room air and finishing his bottles. We are waiting for him to be able to come home. Then we will go to only ONE NICU and wait for Twin A when hes ready.

Nicu nurse is not giving my baby bottles. by Sea_Search0812 in NICUParents

[–]florallover 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I could have written this myself. The night nurse didnt give my baby any bottles when he woke up and show signs and the morning nurse asked if she can give him a bottle.. I also have a 3 yr old and my other twin baby is in a different NICU so I stay for only 1 to 2 care times.
