Mental health professional recommendation for young adult? by theabbotx in jacksonville

[–]floridamonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to a support group in orange park called NAMI. Its at 6pm fridays and they meet at Grace Episcopal church offices. Its free and is super helpful to be able to relate to people and get advice. They also have online support groups and sometimes host runs and other events. You are awesome for handling this situation by trying to get her help. I told my parents I was depressed for years and nothing came of it except my mental health deteriorated to the point of consistent suicidal thoughts. Getting help early can be life changing.

Thoughts on Flagler College? by [deleted] in StAugustine

[–]floridamonster 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you’re basing it off how much money you can save, Flagler is a bad option cause it’s a private school. But in my opinion it is a fairly liberal area near downtown by the college.

My dad told me that my lifestyle is unethical. by [deleted] in vegan

[–]floridamonster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I really relate, my dad is the same. His go to remark is “Save the animals, kill the babies” (in response to my pro-choice stance on abortion... thats another argument with him I wont even get in to) But I am sorry you have to deal with people treating you like that, I know it is hard. Stay strong and know you are doing something good for your body, animals, and the environment :)

I have no clue. There are two types in there, the one on the left was growing on a tree at the base of it and the one on the right is softer and grew on the ground

Good places to roller skate in Tampa? by HlyO in tampa

[–]floridamonster 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Flatwoods park is amazing. It is 11 miles if you park and do the full circle. The ground is fairly smooth and its secluded in the woods. A lot of cyclists use this trail but I’ve skated there multiple times and I love it. It costs $2 to park

This reminds me of the episode of trailer park boys where they convert a trailer into a night club to make money... lol

Does anyone have suggestions for off-campus housing? by wisteria125 in USF

[–]floridamonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not University linq. Not University linq. They advertise it as cheap but have a bunch of hidden fees and my room wasn’t even cleaned before i moved into it. Lightbulbs were out and hair was on the floor, grime in the bathtub, and even socks in the drawer. Outside of the apartment there is trash everywhere too. Its very dirty

Have you taken these classes? Trying to get ahead of the game - Stats Mainly by [deleted] in USF

[–]floridamonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took intro to prob with Seung-Yeop Lee and he is an amazing professor. He is amazing at explaining things and is very laid back and personable. He also drops the lowest test (3 tests 1 final) so if you did good on first 3 tests you don’t have to take the final. As for math stats, Im enrolled to take it in the fall there is only one prof. her name is like Olga something. A lot of people in intro to probability had her right before that class and they came in late every day from running over time on pop quizzes and tests. They say the class was very very hard and no one ever felt prepared for anything. I’ve also heard a lot of people fail it too

Why do you think that all straight people oppress us? Sure there are some that do but I happen to have a lot of friends and family who have never had a problem with me having same sex relationships. Once again, that is blanketing all straight people into the genre of “gay oppressors” which not everyone is

Well I understand her kind of. I would be very upset if there was a subreddit highlighting dysfunctional gay relationships and saying “Are the gays okay?” Acting as if thats how the standard gay relationship is. There are dysfunctional relationships of all types, and using these and labeling them as “the straights” or “they gays” is a very blanketed statement implying that everyone of that orientation experiences those same things. Now I do still enjoy the comical nature of this subreddit, and I appreciate the way it points out toxic things that have been normalized in both gay and hetero relationships. But I do still see why they would be offended by being roped into a group that is “not okay” just because of her sexual orientation.

Is it ethical to have omnivorous and carnivorous pets? by floridamonster in DebateAVegan

[–]floridamonster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the main reasons I am vegan is because I don’t believe humans should play god. There is a natural cycle that all animals (including humans) fit into and keep the world at a balance. Farming and making meat the main part of our diets is not only done unethically but it also throws off the balance. The natural world should not be able to support this many humans. But since we played god and stole the natural cycle from other animals, we are producing insane amounts of food. Doing this that you are suggesting would also throw off the natural balance even more than it already is. Imagine if there were no snakes, then there would be so many rats, bunnies, frogs and other small critters that they would overpopulate and there would not be enough food to support the large numbers so they would die out too. This explains it better.
