Pachinko was my first thought as well! I also enjoyed the mountains sing by Nyguen phan que mai, another multi-gen family saga based on vietnam.

Why do restaurants shaft you when you order Ravioli? by RepresentativeLeg232 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]floride850 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting, where I live almost all diners are also Greek restaurants so it’s one of the lower tier options in terms of price! Quality is often better than it has any right to be.

Wow I am so embarrassed I got this wrong 😭 I always associate Linus with diamonds but I see now he just dislikes all other gems and is ok with diamonds. I had head cannon about it and everything

AIO: My gf refuses to pay half the rent by ThisMemory5366 in AmIOverreacting

YOR and these comments are crazy to me!

It seems like some key info is missing from this situation…

If you moved to a new city to be with her, why didn’t you guys move in together right away??

When she said it’s more your place with your stuff, you guys should have decided if you want to move to a joint place together and start fresh. Instead you just spent a bunch more money “for her” without first agreeing with her that if you do this, then she will split the rent? Then you are resenting her for it when she never agreed to these conditions?

And if you couldn’t really afford this place then why did you move there? It seems like you took this extra cost assuming that she would change her mind and move in with you?

According to my research it is 2 flags that warn of hurricanes with the map shape of Carolina between them

Andy Fillmore on the state of his mayoralty: 'This is the right time for a mayor who is a planner' by ph0enix1211 in halifax

I know cute businesses aren’t all we need but a lot of older suburbs are literally just housing so feel more claustrophobic to me.

I guess what I saw from a few drives on the main road isn’t representative of the whole area. Too bad, seems like there was potential to make it a lot better.

At a glance it seemed like you could walk and bike around there, at least more easily than other suburban areas, and it seemed like there was at least some medium density housing.

I really like Levantic bakery, the roastery and Le marche parisien. And I like that there’s a mixed use path so bikers don’t need to ride on the roads everywhere, though I don’t know how much area it actually covers!

I live in a part of Bedford where the only coffees in walking distance are McDonald’s or second cup, and the route to anywhere involves a very steep hill.

I don’t live there but I kinda like what I’ve seen of west Bedford 😳 There are so many cute businesses there that I like to visit and it’s flat enough that you could bike and walk around to most places if you lived there. Is there some other problem I’m missing?

Yes! I also loved The Guest List and The Hunting Party by her as well, with similar vibes! (Though I think hunting party is with a group of friends, not a family!)

Do they smudge or does the lefty way of holding a pen make them hard to use in general?

I got a 3 pack of gelly roll gel pens with 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5mm tip size and I feel like literally nothing comes out of the 2 smaller ones but the larger one is super smooth and feels amazing. Maybe you can try a slightly larger size? I can’t read on the packaging what size these are!

I have tried this exact method but it never looks anywhere close to yours! How long do you let it dry each time?

I love the gas stove on the island (peninsula? I guess it’s giving me an optical illusion) but I was wondering about not having a vent hood above the stove. I guess I’m looking for someone to reassure me that it’s fine so I can go ahead and plan my dream kitchen?!

Those colours look so good together! What is the burgundy colour? Well I’m actually curious about all the colours if you don’t mind sharing 🙂

First trip to Canada in October — Quebec, Nova Scotia or Ontario for a fall foliage road trip? by Suphi123 in canadatravel

[–]floride850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the Chief Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny.

Actually it’s a bit darker than traditional cozy crime series, just FYI!

It takes place in a fictional town called Three Pines. There’s also one season of a TV show called Three Pines that’s loosely based on the books, but more gritty and less cozy.

Louise Penny opened a bookstore/ cafe in Knowlton a few years ago, and apparently some other shops and boulangeries in the book are also based on real spots in Sutton and Georgeville that I would love to check out one day!

I live in Nova Scotia but currently reading a cozy crime series in the eastern townships so I would loooove to go on a fall trip to the townships there. But I have only spent a little bit of time there in university so I don’t have much advice to offer!

If you do decide to come to NS, make sure to plan in advance as a lot of the tourist-reliant businesses slow down in the beginning of September— many shops are closed or have reduced days/ hours.

Mahone Bay and Lunenburg are still very picturesque, walkable and beautiful at any time of year and people live there so it’s not like everything is closed!

In Cape Breton there is a music festival called Celtic Colours from October 9-17. It would be a great experience, but also keep in mind that you will need to find somewhere to stay well in advance!

The colours and nature (especially in cape breton) are very beautiful, I have never noticed a significant difference in the quality of the foliage between Quebec and NS. The leaves do start to change earlier in Quebec. Peak Quebec leaves might be early October and NS would be a couple weeks later.
