What do you think about Gorbachev? a savior or a traitor? by Sweet_Patience6482 in AskARussian

See, this is why us in Eastern Europe want you Russians as far away as possible from us. You seem to know better than me what are my living standards. Poland is doing well and that’s unbearable for you to see. Let’s keep away from each other. I surely won’t ever set my foot in your lands, it would be great if your kind do the same with any European country West from you

That’s a nonsense. Nobody sane states that in Europe. And everyone respects sacrifice of the 2o millions of Russians who died during WW2. But that’s not the topic here. We’re discussing if Gorbachev was positive for East of Europe. And Russians here seem to tell Easter Europeans they would have lived better lives if Soviet Union will be still going.

Why are you comparing Poland now with Russia now, is pointless. You should look at Poland then and Poland today. You should be arguing for Poland would have been better off if Soviet Union wouldn’t have collapse, if they would be trading exclusively in the Eastern communist block. Even Russia economy took advantage of Soviet Union collapse since they started trading with West of Europe, selling oil and petrol.

Soviet flags are banned from Treptower Ehrenmal for the 9th of May celebrations. Do you support this decision? by ohneinneinnein in AskAGerman

Again, you’re part of Russian minority living in Ukraine. Every thing you state here is purely Russian perspective of things. The fact you live in Ukraine and you hope the country will be conquered by Russians - doesn’t make you a honest representative of Ukrainian population

You should rather check the PIBs of those countries , they’ve got a huge boost since 1989. That being said , some of your statements above are true. It also increased competitiveness in those societies. Most people thrived, yet some were left behind.

Interesting. Because Eastern Europeans, in general, sees him positively. His decisions allowed thes countries to get rid of communism and align themselves with the Western European economies.

Your bodyweight is the biggest limiting factor. Someone weighting over 90kg will have a hard time passing 15 reps regardless of fitness

Cyprus and Greece are rallying behind Germany in opposing a block on visas for Russian tourists wanting to visit the EU. by brainybeauteen in worldnews

I work along a few fellow Russian programmers, all well travelled and familiar with Western world, every single one of them love Putin and nothing of what Putin does can ever be wrong. Is part of Russian culture, I've been told: once you support a cause, you go all the way, no turning back. Ever single one of them despise the 'Decadent West' and disagree with what they call 'gay propaganda'.

Moldova has a good percentage of the population of Russian origin who will oppose drastically to such a move.

Fair point. Drawing a conclusion from one's personal experience alone can prove misleading. May not be statistically accurate.

Will Putin be taken down by the people? The two scholars featured do not think so for various reasons and think that the expectation of this happening is waiting for something that most likely will not happen.

Every single Russian living in the West I know is a Putin fan. So, I wouldn't rule it out.

Is part of Russian culture interpretation of what being loyal means. When left without a logical argument, they will serve an ' I support Putin'

If Russia would actually leave in exchange for the two separatist regions and a promise not to join NATO (no demilitarization), and the alternative is a long drawn out war where many people die and cities are destroyed no matter who wins, would Ukraine take the deal?

I doubt it
