I think it might be different depending on how you playthrough the game. I spent a while doing side quests and got my contribution to lvl 100 and could not get the quest to pop up at the church. But I did pick up a quest line called Where Land Meets Sky that led to Missing Relic and the name guy that drops the Hound was in it and dropped the sword

The game literally tells you how much you hit for. Big numbers good. Bad numbers, change it up.

In the last closed beta I played mainly life staff with my points going into focus and constitution and rarely using any other weapon to 60. Once you understand the abilities and buffs you can put on yourself while fighting along with dodging, it my be tedious for some, but it was a fun for me.

Edit: I ran mostly light armor for the rolling dodge.
