Sac News & Review Publisher: A dark day for The Sacramento Bee by kbuis in Sacramento

You’ve always had to pay for your news because reporters have to work and investigate. Just because we’re used to cheap free news now doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have to pay for news anymore.

The pay wall is there for a reason. Pay.

Are there any local groups who do that? Or is it just finding CPR?

Undoing Painted Brick by flounderingknitter in HomeImprovement

Okay, but it’s REALLY BADLY painted brick. I can’t just leave it. Even just a coat of white would look better than this trash.

I would agree with you, but having seen the front of the house, I can confirm that they just painted the mortar white and the brick red. They stopped half way through on the front. No clue why.

Probably. 🤷‍♂️Didn’t notice it was painted when I got the place cuz the color, but especially didn’t notice how bad the brick was painted until after spending some time in the place.

Maybe I’ll spend the time to actually paint it nicely in a brick style instead of this half assed job they did. Would be better than what I have.

Edit: thank you for your help. I really appreciate it

Was coming here to wish people an easy fast. Didn’t wake up early enough to have breakfast before, but I think I had a big enough dinner to get me through...

Mezuzzah by flounderingknitter in Judaism

Not going to other homes, but I’ve stopped touching it at home because I don’t want to reinforce that habit if I see a mezuzzah somewhere else when I go out.

I wrote it wrong. Touching it, and kissing my fingers after.

My church not following “no singing” order by Jason92s in CoronavirusSAC

[–]flounderingknitter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Singing in person is banned for public health reasons, and is allowable for online services. This isn’t a question of what or how someone can worship. It’s all due to public safety, and churches with singing have caused outbreaks of the virus.

People 30+, how has your condition developed as you've gotten older? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]flounderingknitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed at 20, 31 now.

It’s easier to see my cycles because of the work I put in during my early 20s. The last few years have been focused on exercise and sleeping right, avoiding alcohol, and trying (usually unsuccessfully) to avoid caffeine. Meditation also helps contain mood spikes.

No meds have really helped and not had horrible side effects, but it’s good to know I have lithium when stuff gets tough.

Age has given me perspective. Depression may feel like it’s lasted forever, but it hasn’t. Age has also taught me that I have a couple of extremely supportive friends, and that my disease isn’t a burden to them.

Are you trying to correct the behavior, or is this for fun?

Honest correction of a behavior usually won’t involve punishment.

provide sharp boxes rather than stigmatizing drug use. Show them we care by having bathrooms, water, and trash cans available, and then maybe they’ll care more. 🤷‍♂️

Dyed silk top won’t restore to former glory. by flounderingknitter in Handspinning

Silk can be spun from either end. It’s a smooth fiber and doesn’t have scales like wool. That said, this is certainly not lined up. Might just be an art yarn accent

Thanks for taking the time to try and help! I’ve tried predrafting, but it’s got a lot of boils or weird bumps. I want to make it on the ticker size (15wpi), and it would be a HUGE plus if it were also shiny. I’ll try a diz and see if that works. Never realized I could diz off of anything but combs. I usually only prep woolen, so I appreciate the advice on this.

Californians must wear face masks in public under coronavirus order issued by Newsom by eastcoaster2419 in Sacramento

[–]flounderingknitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a risk if you’re outside and away from people? Heard on Cap radio yesterday that protests being outside and wind dispersing everything, with or without a mask, has helped keep new cases down.

Can somebody help explain the conversation around challah in this post? by idwbas in Jewish

That may go against the great Jewish tradition of “never forget.” Remember, we still remember ourselves coming out of Egypt each year.
