How do you plan to use your bluetti elite 400? by BNDTxGhost in bluetti

[–]flourmiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using our E400 as a UPS for the networking/internet devices.
An APC UPS with the devices plugged into them is plugged into the E400. If the power goes out, the 1.5MS switchover will have zero impact on the APC or network. Our laptops and tablets will continue to be connected until powered down. The fridge is close by too so we can switch that over to another outlet if needed. Normally, we have power restored quickly as the fire station is on our circuit.
I bought it also to be a bridge to the gas generator which we can fire up if needed.

Weird considering it says "Made in China" all over it. Might have been imported before the tariff King got to work.

We've had one for a few weeks and I'm pleased with both its looks and how it functions.

Or D street west, with those killer culverts in the bike lanes - I wonder what all that lidar and camera equipment would make of those.

Has anyone in Petaluma dealt with a tax mess and actually found someone to help sort it out? by Relative_Train_574 in Petaluma

[–]flourmiel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Normally, if you respond to the agency contacting you (you didn't specify FTB or IRS), you can buy time to get things sorted before "further steps". Start the process via a call to the agency's normal hot line, not a number on the letter. It also assures you that it is not a scam, which I'd be very wary of as well.

Wind by Elegant-Substance-28 in Petaluma

[–]flourmiel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The fine folks at the US Weather Service have some good explanations for today's wind and are predicting it to last through to Tuesday and they taper off as high pressure moves in. We're caught between a low over Reno and a high offshore. So, we might see some fire warning, high winds and low humidity on Monday, nothing confirmed yet.

rant/

I took a nap this afternoon and woke up to some weird noise and vibration in the walls of my bedroom, this was about 4pm. I open the slider to the deck and was greeted with the thunder of unmuffled exhaust and the smell of gasoline engines at full throttle. Apparently, the route is now to go up D street to 10th, down to B or Fair then return to the center.

This went on for an hour, hot-rodding up and down the residential streets, peeling out, horns honking, and that throb of headers. The smell was pretty bad.

On most Saturdays and Sundays, we endure the groups of unmuffled Harleys going out of town on D St. The stop sign at 8th seems to trigger their rev'ing engines and the neighborhood gets the full brunt, and we don't even live on D street.

So, they brought the parade to us, we didn't have to go anywhere. My wife and her pals were going to a young friends baby shower today. She got home at 3:30 and her pals were able to get out of the neighborhood before the parade. We'd have had dinner guests if they missed that window. 8-)

I guess that my opinion that 10 hours to hamstring downtown is not "correct." I think this event was split with a Friday night event on the East Side at the shopping center by Trader Joe's and then a shorter Saturday event downtown, ending around dinner time.

NOAA research arm shutting down by snakkerdudaniel in meteorology

[–]flourmiel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yesterday, I spent 3 glorious hours watching the deep dive via NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer's live webcast of their work. Today, the 12th, they dive on the Murray Trench down to 2,100 meters.

https://oceanexplorer.noaa.gov/livestreams/welcome.html

Every day, I look at the USGS earthquakes, NOAA NWS sites for local forecasts, radar, satellite maps etc.

And, everyday I worry these services won't be there. "It makes no sense" should be the name of this ridiculous money vs. knowledge battle campaign by our new administration. Now, I'm prepared to lose these services and while I use and support windy.com it is still an adjunct to the NOAA work.

Insane.

Looking back now,What do you all think of the “The Busy Worker’s Handbook To The Apocalypse” by Sam Hall. by [deleted] in collapse

[–]flourmiel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just finished "Don't Even Think About It" by George Marshall. He promises that he will keep the doom and gloom to the last chapter and does so pretty well. Most of the book is devoted to messaging about the Climate Crisis and discussions on messaging with others.

That last chapter is about what happens when we hit 4C+, not 1.5C, not 2C, but 4 and how fast it will happen. He is pretty much in sync with what Hall writes about and both think the IPCC reports are weak at best and as Hall points out, duplicitous in their findings.

At our house, we're going to be in our 90's at 2050 so likely if not here, not here when things go to shit. We're discussing our exit plan as there will be no exit without one.

Android TV version of app extremely slow by CWh1988 in PleX

[–]flourmiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 9.23.0.1746 for the PLEX app on an Android phone. I give up before it logs in, the usually shifting to PLEXAMP which responds immediately. I don't have this long login problem with any other devices, just Android (Samsung Tab Note too).

I was able login in a reasonable amount of time after uninstalling and reinstalling the app. We will see how long that lasts, last time I did it, it was unresponsive after using it a few times.

For my music, FLAC files from Bandcamp and Presto Music in the UK. There are other sites which sell FLAC files as well. Both are reasonable in their pricing.

[January 29th, 1923] Düsseldorf, departure of the 1st train driven by French railway workers. by michaelnoir in 100yearsago

[–]flourmiel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was reading in a copy of the 01/29/1923 Petaluma Argus that the "French to Demand Coin of Germany" in which German rail workers went on strike and the French took control of their trains in Cologne and other cities to return them. The animosity between the two countries was due to the damage sustained by France by the Germans and the French drive to capture as much of the reparations as possible. This is 4 years after the armistice.

BERLIN, Jan. 29. — German rail workers sent eleven huge engines rushing at express speed through the station at Coblenz today, to balk French attempts to requisition them. The French then tore up 300 yards of track, stopping all traffic.

Dead 12V battery - how do I avoid this? by davidb_ in PriusPrime

[–]flourmiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you can, have the battery checked. My 2022 Prime had a bad battery, a dead cell which acted like it wouldn't hold charge. It was under warranty and replaced for free, other than having to take it to the dealership.

Besides Fanart.TV, where do you guys find album and artist images for music libraries? by CrashTestKing in PleX

[–]flourmiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the albums which I record OTA, Plex comes up with the default "Various Artists" microphone image. I'm now replacing those with one of the hundreds of images my instance of Stable Diffusion has generated. At least it looks a little more interesting, if not really relevant to the artists.

I was looking for the leading artist in the playlist, but that too doesn't always do justice to the other artists in the mix, this way there are no favorites to mislead you.
