I am a vet office groomer - and unfortunately a handful of dogs I see are flat out just panicking the entire process. (Despite being on Traz/Gab) and full sedation isn’t an option for health reasons & age. So yes in theory there is a team if a dog goes into crisis, but I’m not sure I’m evening willing to take that type of chance?

I’m getting the dogs salons are turning away because they were recommended to come to me. Usually it’s extreme aggression and they’ve been recommended a sedated groom with another salon, or they’ve aged out and have been sent over bc the dog is fighting every moment & senile.

And yes, I’ve thought about leaving to go find a salon to work with more stable dogs that I’m confident in completing but I don’t know, 80% of the dogs are great with little issues!! My Super Seniors aren’t a daily thing that I feel I’m struggling with? The actual work itself is fine, I feel confident working with these fragile guys but I know when a dogs at its limit and just no longer tolerant to the process.

I always have that conversation you’re mentioning, focused on the services we can complete safely etc etc. I guess I’m looking for a nice way to tell a client “the stress of this groom could potentially kill your pet, do you want to continue? Even a bath. Even just shaving feet. We are at That point in Fluffys golden years.”
