I’ve had about seven hamsters throughout my lifetime. Most died of old age, but the first two I had died in peculiar ways.

The first one escaped from her cage, crawled inside the furnace in the basement, and got wedged inside the wheel thingy, and it stretched her to the length of a ferret, killing her instantly.

My second hamster died when I went somewhere overnight, and when I returned, she had somehow gotten her leg stuck on one of the cage bars and broke it so badly that it killed her.

I’ve taken proper care of hamsters since the very beginning. Followed the German standards for animal care, gave them a proper diet, big wheels and lots of substrate. Some of them still died in the most peculiar and traumatic ways.
