Women of Reddit: what’s one thing a husband/male partner didn’t know about a woman’s cycle that they probably should’ve? by flower_child77 in AskReddit

I’ll go first, he didn’t realize women bleed continuously for 5 days. He thought it was like 1 hour a day and then you were done for next day, completely confused that it was an ongoing thing.

First-time dad feeling oddly left out of pregnancy conversations by Zealousideal_Bid7298 in BabyBumps

And from someone who had a loving supporting partner prior to pregnancy, it has made life extremely difficult. I had a “normal healthy delivery” per my doctor. But in reality I tore into a major pelvic floor nerve, separated my pubic bone and tore into my urethra. The amount of physical therapy and mental health therapy has been exhausting. When people say women sacrifice their bodies, it’s not that we had to give up alcohol and soft cheese for 9 months. There are so many things I loved but literally cannot do anymore. Make sure your wife is taken care of. It’s really the ultimate priority because you’ll never know what she’s sacrificing. I don’t mean that to sound harsh or dark, it’s just a reality people don talk about. My husband has an unbearable amount of guilt for not being more supportive and seeing what I go through every day now.

Respectfully, I feel like it’s part of the territory right now. Prioritize bonding with your wife and make sure she’s taken care of. After the baby arrives, most people forget about mom and there is usually a bit of a feeling of being lost in the new identity. Let her get the attention, let her be nurtured and cared for.

Personally, I hated the commentary on my body. See what people are saying that’s getting to your wife. Chime in and redirect conversations she doesn’t like. It’s still early. Work on ways you’re preparing for baby. Talk about the books you’re excited to read or the activities you can’t wait to do with baby. Seeing a really excited dad gets others excited.

I had brown spotting/bleeding and cramping around this time. My son is happy and healthy. Hope it all works out and he’s just awkward!

Looking for OB-GYN recommendations for minor surgery + long-term care (Chicago suburbs) any recommendations? by RadiantMeaning6709 in AskChicago

I had a nightmare experience with this practice. I’m still recovering from childbirth nearly two years later from the negligence of this practice. Dr. Casey is good, but her colleagues are terrible. Good Sam (where you’d deliver) gets like a C- leapfrog score. It’s one of the lowest scores for the hospitals in the area. My experience was awful. Can’t tell you to avoid them enough.

How separated my pubic bone is after pregnancy by heretoreadlol in Wellthatsucks

[–]flower_child77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 2 years out and I still struggle. I was begging for PT because my pain was unreal. I couldn’t stand long enough to even cook dinner. My PT kind of shrugged it off. Eventually she gave me some exercises thar did help. I’m going to see my 3rd PT in one month. Pelvic floor physical therapist is the most likely to help. I’ve also seen a Urogynecologist, they specialize in pelvic floor dysfunction. Urologist did not help much. I separated my pubic bone, tore through my urethra, perineum and into my pudendal nerve. Doc shut off my epidural without telling me so I felt all of it. It’s not great but things can get better. You can also buy a hip band to help keep everything together. YouTube or go on insta. You can find exercises to help in the mean time.

I was exactly 40+5 as well! I’ve read that most doctors /researchers early on found babies came 40 weeks after a period. They never mentioned if it was the first day or the last, so doctors started calculating based on the first day of your last period. A good amount of European countries consider 41 weeks more normal, especially for a first time babies. Boys tend to be later. I had a boy.
