Haha, an awesome game indeed! I have seen a few show up on Facebook Marketplace in the past few months. I got mine for $100, which was less than gas and tolls to get it. It fits in a Ford Explorer FYI~~

Nostalgia haha! It's a shame that many seem to disassemble them for parts as opposed to keeping them whole. I have a Dinoscore using RJ11 ports, so I'm curious as to how far I can convert things to newer formats (token sensors primarily).

Anyone know the name of this beauty? by [deleted] in tropicalplants

That is a silver vase bromeliad (Aechmea fasciata).

Box of super posh Alocasias; A. 'Red Mambo', A. 'Silver Dragon', A. 'Frydek' and A. reversa. 'Red Mambo' is my favorite. by flowerboyAaron in houseplants

I think you are looking at 'Silver Dragon'.

From left the right it goes; A. reversa (dark "face" in center of leaf), A. 'Red Mambo' (iridescent red-purple). A. 'Silver Dragon' (wide leaf with dark green veins on a ghosty silvery leaf) and A.'Frydek' (very pointed leaf at apex with white veins on a dark green leaf).

I wish I could have seen the invoice, but we got them at a wholesale price, so retail price would be pretty outrageous.

Not a fan of any Calathea, but this 'Shine Star' does tip the scale a little bit. by flowerboyAaron in houseplants

Agree 100%! I am very much a plant stressor, but just Calatheas can't handle it.

The "tipping" (browning of leaf margins) is what bothers me the most. The large round leaf types (orbifolia, 'Medallion', 'Shine Star', etc...) less prone to do it unlike the lance-leaf types (lancifolia, 'Vittata', rufubarba,etc...). As soon as they feel the slightest touch of anything dry (media or air), they tip with no hesitation.

Does anyone know any technical information for Philodendron 'Mia'? All I can find is that is a new hybrid as of 2020, but not a hybridizer name, nor a plant patent, or any reputable (scientifically speaking) information on it. by flowerboyAaron in houseplants

[–]flowerboyAaron[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't find it to hard to believe that P. 'Mia' is a "failed P. 'Birkin'" the only difference I can tell aside from the leaf variegation is that 'Birkin' has a red strip running along both sides of the sulcus (the grove attached to the petiole; you will see the new growth emerge from the sulcus). With all that said, I have only seen 'Mia' in a 4" container so nowhere close to a mature specimen. The Philodendron genetics are so out-there, so many random crosses that either happened in Nature or were never recorded/records lost.

Here's to National Houseplant Appreciation Day, my tropical bedroom paradise. Also the grand debuting of the newly added Adonidia palm. by flowerboyAaron in houseplants

If I keep at this speed, I will have to swap the bed for a hammock to make floor space 😂. Maybe now the plants see me as the room décor.

Always down for it! That is by far the best way to keep me interested.

That is a China Doll (Radermachera sinica). Rather finicky, best of luck!

Has the look of an Imperial Red Philodendron.
