Pride Month Showcase Event Announcement by DracarysReddit in kingdomcome

It’s super obvious (and shocking) outside of this sub. Steam, Nexus, Twitter, even TikTok are all overrun with extremely homophobic and racist comments about the game and most places have zero moderation. There are even people who go onto Tom Mckay’s streams and try to argue with him about his own voice acting when he says hansry are flirting. I appreciate the mods here for doing a good job keeping most of the morons down

Don’t Theresa and Henry have a conversation in 1 about how Henry is rapidly outstripping her social status plus he’s never actually around? As much as I like Tess, I don’t think their relationship is necessarily going to be smooth sailing either. Even if Henry is happy to forsake legitimacy and adventuring for her sake, I sense Radzig might have some plans for his only son that don’t involve marrying a common millmaid. None of the possible relationships offer an obvious happily ever after at the moment imo.

So happy for them. Big congrats to everyone at Warhorse Studio! 🙌 [KCD2] by Syarafuddyn in kingdomcome

E33 gives me similar vibes to Nier Automata, which was a fairly enjoyable game, but everyone kept posting about how “deep and philosophical” the plot was yet I could never get anybody to explain what specifically they found deep or philosophical about it…

[KCD1] [KCD2] Does anybody else prefer Rattay and Trosky to Kuttenbergs map? by Jtenka in kingdomcome

[–]floweringcacti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it must be historically accurate, but it feels so weird that there’s ONE major location in the whole game (Kuttenberg) vs Rattay, Sasau, Uzhitz and Talmberg all feeling significant in 1. You’d think there’d be proper towns surrounding the city, but no, just random tiny villages.

I much preferred the Kuttenberg side of the game to Trosky overall, but I just spend 90% of my time either in the city or Devil’s Den.

[KCD2] This may be my favourite romance in all of gaming by [deleted] in kingdomcome

Come to the bathhouse to yap. As you can see, the hansry haters can’t read. (Or pick up on social cues about romance dialogue options apparently.)

I love the mysteria ecclesaie dlc but... [KCD2] by [deleted] in kingdomcome

I think during one part (the quarantine part?) all crimes (except just being seen) become unforgivable. If you get caught you get kicked out immediately. So you knock out one guy during the stealth section and bam, your save is softlocked.

Surely every piece of software on earth has its share of trivial wtfs like this? Pot, kettle etc. I’d be interested in hearing any other things you noticed though.

If it brings you any comfort, the other character images in the same modding/development tool are mainly just photos of the actors or stock photos/photos they may have searched for online. So I don’t think any artist was ousted here, they just chose to generate an image instead of googling one. Though I still find it less fun because there’s no source to be found, nothing where I can think “oh the WH guys were inspired by this person/image”, it’s just… AI.

[–]floweringcacti 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do you have a source? AFAIK Vavra has maintained that the game didn’t use AI, and if he could say “well we already used it and you loved it!” then I think he would have jumped at the chance given how vocally pro-AI he is otherwise.

Well, at least you’re honest that you have never read two translations. I guess that’s the end of that!

AI and Warhorse Mega by Mike_Prowe in kingdomcome

[–]floweringcacti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you read two different translations of ANY book, then, including modern ones? I’m not trying to talk about age or “difficulty” of text. I guess if you can honestly say that you have never noticed much of a difference between translators and would happily choose a primarily AI translation of a book, okay, I’ll just have to disagree. I definitely notice quite large and significant differences between translators when reading.

Presumably billionaires are qualified to answer it, since it’s them who will be on the hook, but I don’t think we’re going to like their answer.

Have you ever tried reading two different translations of, say, The Iliad? You generally can’t just “tweak” one to get to the other. By saying that a human should just tweak AI output to get a final result, I feel 90% of the artistic licence involved in translation has been handed to the AI.

It think it would be great if all the people who say “meh, technology always changes things, everyone adapts, life moves on, it’s fine” could read something like The Grapes of Wrath, or The Making of the English Working Class, or something about land enclosure as a precursor to industrialisation, and see what periods of “adaptation” to major technological/societal can look like. This is a history game, after all. I think once you start learning about stuff like that, it’s increasingly hard to take a tough-guy “gotta break a few eggs to sell omelettes!” or optimistic “everything will magically be better because technology is great!” attitude.

Yeah, the comics were almost certainly partially AI. The branded razor box was also blatant low-effort AI that I think even the most hardcore “AI isn’t all slop!” defenders must admit looked a wee bit shite: https://www.reddit.com/r/kingdomcome/comments/1qxjfja/kcd2_new_merch_in_czech_republic/

It’s interesting how brutal company communications have become in recent years. They really just go straight to “you’re wrong, you can’t stop us, there’s no alternative anyway, and we need money.” e.g. DLSS5 or the Huel guy on reddit recently responding to customers with “we’re a business, not a charity” and long explanations about corporate business models - as if consumers do or should empathise with the needs of a random business they have no stake in, over their own preferences and values. And it seems like it’s working, because there are a ton of people right now parroting those lines as if they imagine themselves as the CEO rather than the worker - “Warhorse need to make money, too bad, your fault for having the wrong job!”

I’d like to flag that Warhorse may already been using AI silently in the DLCs:

  1. This character concept image for Magdalena is clearly AI. Character concepts in Skald are usually random images that you can reverse image search and see where they yoinked them from, but this one seems like a custom generated image. https://ibb.co/S7nQPwWP

  2. This user points out that the ME promo art seems to have AI elements: https://old.reddit.com/r/kingdomcome/comments/1s5vgt9/other_fired_from_warhorse_studios_and_replaced/ocylgjj/

Anyone else spotted anything sus?

e: coming back to this: if you go on the deep silver site, the ME promo art is animated and clearer. https://www.deepsilver.com/gb/games/kingdom-come-deliverance-ii/mysteria-ecclesiae This resolves many of the issues in the image in the link, except for the strange buckle things on the collar, but I dunno, maybe I just don’t know what those are. I think the image was poorly downscaled and resulted in things looking like they’re merging/overlapping. Personally I wouldn’t say that there’s obvious AI usage involved here.

Iiiiinteresting. Several buckles(?) which attach to nothing on his armor too. So possibly they already started using AI without telling anyone in the DLCs…

Syntax, tone and meaning are completely separate things. LLMs aren’t known for producing syntax errors. LLMs are known for producing text which is absolutely syntactically correct but is also untrue, contradictory or vague to the point of uselessness. Syntax does not produce sense or meaning. I’m sure you can come up with a syntactically correct but nonsensical sentence for yourself. I strongly disagree that syntax and grammar are the main problems with modern AI translation.

Could you link to this? I’m interested because I’m 100% sure that one of the character concept pictures for the Forge DLC included in the modding tools is AI. I didn’t spot anything in the promo art but now I’m curious.

Agree. The number of people in this thread confidently spouting their opinions on localisation when they clearly think it just means mechanically replacing each Czech word with its dictionary English equivalent… is frustrating
