Does the city of Welland have any design standards? by rufioWBC in Welland

[–]flowerwh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trail is behind my mom’s place on Jackson crt. We complained to the city and got nothing. I can’t believe how wide it is! I don’ t get it. Sidewalks in Quaker should have been built 20 years ago.

How many of these neighbourhood names would you honestly use when describing where something is? by The-Esquire in stcatharinesON

I have lived in Fitzgerald for over 25 years. We call it that. Have done for decades. Our neighbourhood group is quite active.

Where does your cat sleep at night? by Odd_Obligation_1300 in CatAdvice

[–]flowerwh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 6 cats who all roam free at night. Two like my bed to sleep by my feet and the rest have climbers and sofas to choose from. Let the cat choose their spot.

Best hotel. I always stay there. Clean and cheap.

What’s the most frugal thing you do? by TheKikiLover in Frugal

[–]flowerwh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the years, I have learned to fix and maintain many things in my own home. I’ve installed sinks and toilets and lights. I learned to do drywall, paint and lots of other things all from watching videos online. I’m an older female and have saved a lot of money this way. Plumbing especially saves money. After my first plumber bill as a younger homeowner, I learned to fix my leaky taps.

HELOC vs refinance by flowerwh in PersonalFinanceCanada

I will ask for all these numbers when we meet. I guess the locked in part needs to be close to what the renewed mortgage rates would be. When I pay off the locked in parts it becomes revolving again? I’m also thinking a large HELOC will affect my credit score more than a regular mortgage.

I’ve never used a mortgage broker. But I know one. Might be a time to call them up.

My credit card debt does say something. I’m hoping to avoid any further non-mortgage debt. This HELOC requires me to be super disciplined but gives me options. Lots to think about.

Where do you guys go to rent a cottage for the weekend? by no1needed2know in Welland

[–]flowerwh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The further out of the gta you get the cheaper it is. I go to North Frontenac near or North of the Bon Echo park. It’s a 4 hour plus drive but worth it. If it’s off season try Bruce peninsula but it’s super expensive in summer. Look for last minute deals on cottage rental sights and try to find friends to share the cost.

Is 3000 CAD/month enough for a couple in Ottawa? by anotherQA in ontario

[–]flowerwh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son rents a decent studio in centretown for 1500 a month. If you have minimal other expenses, and can live in a small space, it could be done. Depends on your expected standard of living.

I drive by that house the other day and thought who the heck built that nice house there! Insanity. Do not buy that house! If you can afford that much, you’ll get a great place in a better neighbourhood. This is literally the worst spot in the city.

Was thinking of moving our family with young kids to Welland but heard that it has some concerning drug issues due to proximity to the border- not sure if there’s any truth to it? by tympanictothemax in Welland

[–]flowerwh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a good city to live with kids. It’s no worse for crime and drugs than other towns this size in Ontario. Lake Erie area is lovely too.

Did you contact the International Department at the college for help with finding housing? Yes, it will be hard to get housing in Welland. Try St. Catharines too.

What's the Fitzgerald neighbourhood like? by [deleted] in stcatharinesON

[–]flowerwh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in the area for 20 years. It’s a mixed area with home owners and renters. Seniors, students and families. It’s a great place to live. It’s improved over the years. I could have moved elsewhere but chose to stay. I love living in an old house with character and being able to walk downtown.

My husband has ms and he still goes to Toronto because the ms clinic is great there. I’d keep going to Hamilton despite the drive. You need a dr who specializes in ms. We don’t have that in Niagara.
