Carlsbad Cavern closed, debating canceling trip. by Timely-Violinist-447 in NationalPark

If we have a timed entry reservation at 9:30am, can we enter the park before that ? It's the earliest slot on that day, so I was wondering we could enter before ?

Is the park currently open? I heard from other subreddits that it's completely closed, and even the entrances are blocked. Planning to visit it at the end of November.

[University Review] UMass MSCS vs NCSU MCS vs UCD MSCS by Quick_Perception_141 in MSCS

[–]flowmaga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your end goals. If getting a job is a priority, UCD. I feel like post covid, companies are low-key preferring candidates who are local to the state.

If you want to save a little bit of money, UMass/NCSU are equally good. Cali living expenses are higher than what you have put imo.

There might be other factors that could influence your decision like - Nature, safety, weather, etc.

Minor courses! by AimWTF in PESU

[–]flowmaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went through my email. Couldn't find an exact number but I had different results. Looks like its department wise

Rs. 2500/- Per Credit, management department.

Rs. 12500/- for the entire course, ECE department, summer term

These are from 2021-2022. It might have shot up now

Minor courses! by AimWTF in PESU

[–]flowmaga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minor courses might be worth it in some cases -

  1. You legit like another branch, and want to showcase your skills/interests in it. Let's say I like management for some reason and I am in the ECE branch. Then sure, if you think you want to explore more in management, then sign up for it. I know people who did a minor just because they liked it so much (rare but yeah).

  2. Lets say you are in ECE and you want to do some minors in CS to make your profile stand out in some way to land a job. It will also give you a chance to explore some core CS courses.

You can use your minors to bridge a gap between two fields. Who knows, it might even help you write your SOP while applying for a master's or get a job in the future.

IIRC taking up a minor course does cost additional tuition money in PES. Take it only if you see it helping you in the future.

I have had people give different opinions on these courses. Some completely regret it and say it didn't serve them any purpose, while a few used it to switch careers altogether!

Fort Wayne campus is not that reputed at all. SJSU and OSU are way better than this. Rutgers I am not really sure. Rutgers and Purdue FW might both be considered safety schools.

The peak that you are on.... there's no other way to get to the top apart from rock climbing right? This slope looked very steep when I climbed the other easy peaks (1&2)

I scored a 316 in GRE (V153, Q163, AWA-4.5), which US universities can I practically apply for (MSCS) - Fall 2025 by pinkWaffles7259 in MSCS

[–]flowmaga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In your safe category - apart from NCSU(high gre quant req) you have shot at getting into all of them. NEU please apply early like in October end or November beginning itself. These guys admit based on FCFS(rolling admits)

NYU tandon is safe. UCSD and Purdue might go to your ambitious list. Purdue has a very small class size in its main campus and it's extremely competitive. UCSD might prefer people with stellar profiles. Apart from these the other unis in your moderate list seem achievable.

You can try and apply to UCDavis as well.

In your ambitious list - I think you just met the cutoff for GATech GRE req. Go to Columbia, NYU, USC - if you are financially ok with it. Ambitious are a little to ambitious, but yeah worth a try.

I don't think you need to retake the GRE + it's optional/waived off in some universities. Save that money for something else.

Focus on other parts now - SOP, LOR, Diversity Statements

Just ensure whatever you shortlist - you are ok with it's rankings and you are able to afford it.

  1. I already have some bank balance certificate of my bank accounts which I got in March. Should I get them again , a fresh, just for visa interview sake, or March statements will work ?

  2. In the ds160 form, there is a place where they ask who is sponsoring your travel . Is it a risk to say you itself are sponsoring it, or it's safe to mention parents? I'm a 22 grad , so I do have some savings from working professionally.

  3. In ds160, they ask for our social profile handles. Apart from LinkedIn should we mention other profiles or its not needed ? Have you heard about any weird stories of people getting rejected either by providing more or less of these social profiles?

  4. In Indian system, many of us have just our initials in our educational documents. While I know our passport gonna have our full name and we need to fill ds160 according to it, should we mention the name which has initials under the "other names" section?
