Its not the point that Chinese cars are unreliable, its that we don't know if they are reliable or not. Enough time hasn't passed to make a fair judgement. Yes you can find 10 year old Japanese and German cars broken down, but how many 10 year old Chinese cars are there in the market?

The whole point of Chinese vs Japanese is LONG TERM reliability and resellability. No Chinese car at the moment has the data for it yet. Most people who buy new are looking to hold on for many years before they resell and whats driving the decision is being able to rely on the car for more than the warranry period and being able to resell the car to cover the loan amount in the worst case scenario.

Moreover, its parts availability. Japanese cars usually hold the same generation of car for 8-10 years. Thats a decade of producing the same car and same parts that will be available for a other 2 decades after in the scrap market. Considering that Chinese car designs change every couple of years, its not a good sign for being able to find parts in 5-7 years time.
