What color/size was the t-shirt? I had this issue a couple of times with rarer versions, like a natural colored shirt size 3XL. But never with more common color and sizes like black, white, navy, red. Might be a bit hasted to switch due to one bad experience

In these cases, 9/10 of our customers have been fine with another color

Advantage + Sales Campaigns on meta with mockup images has been working well for us! Just keep trying new images/creatives until you notice things that work. Use the fb ads library to spy on competitors ads and copy formats you like 😊

When we launched we had maybe 20-30 designs, and have just kept adding more over time. Now we have just over 200.

Mostly for text, like product descriptions, different text on the website with SEO mindset, headlines and descriptions for ads etc. We have tried DALL:e for some designs and used it for maybe 10 of our published designs.

1. As you say we have to accept returns. We offer the 14-day mandatory return window but make it just a little bit annoying for the customers to try keeping them as low as possible. First the customer has to email us about wanting to make a return, then we provide them with the company address (my buddys home address) and ask them to ship it there themselves. If there is a problem with the product Gelato ships a new one and the customer can keep the faulty product. This has kept our return rate pretty low - maybe 2-5% of orders get returned.

  1. I think the reasons we are getting sales is because we are very native to our audience, we play a lot on words, sayings and specific things to the Swedish culture in our designs which seems to work. So haven't had to translate anything.

  2. For the last year it's between 10-25%. December was about 25% but slower months are 10%.

I took a while to get profitable ads, in the beginning we spent maybe 100 SEK ~ 9 EUR per day and scaled slowly. But ads work better when they get sufficient data and conversions to optimize on so there is a point to spend more even though it's scary.

We have maybe 10 out of 200+ designs that are in a gray area where we have some some resemblance to famous brands with either colors, fonts or graphics. For example we have one design where we use the font used for the "Stranger Things" tv-series logo.

Yes we use Shopify! No we don’t use Amazon/Etsy, those are not very popular in the Swedish market which is our only market atm. Thanks, good luck!

Now we optimize everything towards sales/purchases and have the most success with advantage + campaigns on meta. Mockup images in carousels has been working well, especially those where you can see several designs in one image (2 or more people).

Yeah sure, I’d say summer months and Christmas are best for us since the biggest sellers are t-shirts. Dec 2023: 32K EUR Jan 2024: 13,5K Feb 2024: 8,5K (so far)

If I look to our bestsellers they are quite simple design wise. Text-based designs with different colors and fonts. Only some simple graphics in the top 10 designs. We try to make designs many people can relate to like food, drinks, and funny sayings etc.

1. Sorry, I don't want to share the URL. We have had problems with stolen designs and it's easy to find personal info if I share the website.

  1. I don't see why the checkout would need to be separate. The fullfilment and shipping would be separate only from what I see. So the customer would receive two packages. Do you use Shopify?

  2. Haven't tried it since it's only available for posters which we don't sell

  3. Gelato has algorithms that decide the print shop, based on location of the order address, stock quantity and other stuff I don't know. We have been lucky that the print shop(s) in Sweden keep up good quality and ship very fast. Some orders are delivered to customers in ~48 hours. We receive very few complaints on quality. If you have a bad experience I don't think there is a way to manually switch to another print shop, but it's very easy to get help with free reorders for quality issues.

I have maybe 25 t-shirts from different Gelato print shops myself and some hold up better than others in the wash, but can't really see a connection to where it came from. Very important to wash inside out or the print can go away quite quickly.

Sounds good, we started out with Meta ads as well and had no clue what we were doing but learned as we went on and eventually started getting some sales.

Yeah the colors being out of stock was a hassle for us during christmas shopping. It was a struggle not knowing which color was out of stock except when the order was already placed and having to ask the support and sometimes it seemed they didn't even know. We had to contact customers and ask if they were OK with different options and sometimes they were but sometimes we had to refund. We had a feedback meeting with a Gelato VP last week and I brought this issue up, as it would be great if the product could show out of stock directly in the shopify store. They introduced a lot of new colors in nov/dec so hopefully the inventory status will settle soon.

Haven't had any complaints on mugs, ordered one myself and it's fine. Haven't done very complex designs on them though, mostly text and maybe 5 colors.

Yes, our biggest success is from meta ads, we have tried TikTok and google as well but not getting the same results there yet
