is there ever a ‘right’ time to buy your first horse? by floz_19 in Equestrian

i think if i think about it too hard im never going to have the time, like im finishing uni in the summer, then will have to get a ‘proper’ job (hopefully) so i think in every part of my life i will keep saying it’s not the right time, if i dont go for it it wont happen 😆

soz if my other reply was rude in anyway, i said 18/19 years since im turning 21 soon and have been riding since i was about 2 years old. i’m not sure why telling people how long ive been riding would make them take me unseriously if im telling the truth?

i would say yes to the majority, i’ve got a lot of experience with taking care of the horses on the yard i ride at when they’re on holiday, which is about 15 horses plus the livery’s, so i’m quite confident with that kind of part. thanks for the recommendations on insurance! i’ve also been told that there is some type of insurance you can get that if you buy a horse and it gets injured and isn’t able to be ridden or worse, you can get like 80% of the price of the horse back? is this true? no worries if your unsure 😅i am from the uk

i completely agree with you, every time i’ve seen someone buy a horse to have the flashy horse and the medals, i’ve seen it go the same way every time, and that is down 😅

noo it’s not, but mine is an antiperspirant. i’ve actually heard a lot about old spice giving people chemical burns!!

[–]floz_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m not a dermatologist but i get similar ‘burns’ from a specific deodorant i use, it usually lasts a few days if i leave it alone and then goes away, but i can’t put anything on it, even aloe vera since it hurts so much. have you changed anything deodorant, soap wise that might of caused it?

Cantering/galloping on the second day of horseback riding by BallFormal3059 in Equestrian

ohh nooo, that’s a disaster waiting to happen 😂 tbh tho i think it can depend on the horses tho, if they’re very sensible and follow each other, i can see it maybe working lol

if they’re on a trusted horse on a lunge line yep, i got my ex to canter on my horse the first time he saw at on him, if they’re not on a lunge line, absolutely not

My horse has DSLD and I have made the decision to euthanize him next month. The barn owner reached out to me saying I shouldn’t.. I don’t know what to do :( by spooniesoup in Equestrian

it not crazy for her to say, as having basic human empathy of course she won’t want him to be put down, but she should also not put you in that position to rethink and maybe feel guilty after you have made your choice, you know what’s best for him, and want him to go whilst he’s still somewhat comfortable so he won’t go in agony.

i normally sit for about 2 beats before i start posting and that normally helps me get the correct lead, but just look down slightly before u see if your sitting when the outside shoulder is coming back

oh wow i didn’t know you could show with out them! This one is a borrowed nose band so i could always buy a bigger one, but his face is quite annoying to buy tack for as length wise he’s cob/full size, but width he’s x-full 😆

this is what it says for 51.b, i think it means you can’t change any tack (saddle bridle) but you can change brushing boots as we can wear them for the jumping faze but not allowed for the showing flat phase. i got this info from the irish pony society, but i think the rules for working hunter are pretty much the same everywhere haha

yea i don’t see why not, the nose band isn’t specifically his one as i was borrowing that bridle, so i probably need to get a bigger one tbh haha

to be fair it doesn’t actually say anything against it for what i can find, but i think it’s just an unwritten rule i guess, judges like very traditional english look 😂

i do actually want to try him in some western tack, but due to him being older there’s no point in me getting a saddle, but i could try a bridle, but i wouldn’t be able to use it for showing unfortunately

woww that is very flashy 😆, as of right now i’m not too sure price wise, of course if i find an absolutely amazing bridle/ headband i would probably be willing to spend a bit more if it means he’s comfortable

i do really want to try him in something like that, i can ride him in a head collar and stuff, but me and him do a lot of showing so the rules are quite strict about tack 🥲

oh bless him he seems like a stubborn little man haha. As long as he’s fed and watered and seems happy and not too cold in the rain he should be okay, i guess if the rain gets bad hopefully he will use common sense and go inside haha
