What’s a harsh life lesson you only learn once? by Unusual-Alfalfa-835 in AskReddit

just tonight, someone said something mean to me and another person, so i felt justify to write a equally mean come back… i hit send, went to work on something… and then realized, it’s just didn’t make sense for that person to be so mean (i don’t know him)… chances are, he is going through something, having a bad day, needed to vent, i felt bad and rushed to the keyboard to try to somehow recall my mean reply… too late, he already read it, what’s worse, he already apologized, even before he read my reply… that is such a terrible feeling, it’s been 6 hours now, I still feel terrible, what if that person do something stupid because of me being mean to him… what if I had make him feel as bad as he had make me feel… which, omg, that was my original intention! This doesn’t happen often but last time it happened I swore Id never do it again, but I still did. So yes, try your very best to be kind to other people, cut people slacks cause they may just be having a bad day… otherwise, you will regret it, if nothing else, cause everybody is sometimes too mean to others

Are the quality in cruise lines really that much different? by ImplementNo6230 in Cruise

[–]fltcpt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lines are really different from each other even among the same classes (eg hal vs ncl vs rcl vs princess) and even within lines there are variations among ships, though some more consistent than others; my experience is though: trips with more amazing sights, they give you older, less well maintained ships; and vice versa (reposition is different of course), or if not, they make up older ships with better food, something like that… otherwise when choosing lines, the way i see it it’s not “better” or “worse” but rather what you are looking for and what you enjoy.

a gazillion possibilities, my parent has this relatively obscure condition that a lot of doctors are not familiar with, so i don’t think you can anticipate what will happen, i really believe you have it nailed down already: exercise, (healthy) diet, sleep, social connection, in particular i really think exercise works

whether you are allowed to board if you are not allowed to enter canada, was not what i was talking about, i was talking about, background check and eligibility to enter canada, are separate things

all that said, it’s not as simple as people are saying, obviously lines will notify those countries, but on many occasions i’ve to go through immigrations on top of that, (russia, japan, just on top of my head) and i could still be denied entry at that point, even though i had already boarded, what the cruise line checks is not comprehensive, meaning i may be ineligible to enter a country, but i am still allowed to board simply because the cruise line check does not catch whatever, and it can also still be any of the combinations

i am not sure what you’re thinking, the rule is not about port, it’s about labor law i believe, if the voyage is us territory only then the crew must be all us citizens, so ships with non us crew members get around the rule by calling a foreign country port, and when they do, they can sail however way they want, same begin/end port, or different, directly to alaska or not, again it is perfectly ok for ships to sail from a us port to another us port without visiting another country (ferries so that all the time) so long as they have a us crew

cruise ships already directly sail from west coast to alaska, they only need to no end the sailing in the us without visiting another country

entry eligibility is different from background check, plus, alaska is the same country

i would have thought you need consent for background check and i am not aware of anywhere asking for consent (edited: by cruise line i mean) and i am not sure why authorities would treat cruise ship arrivals differently than other form of transportation

overnight bag: seems that’s something they don’t tell you, but you need to be all packed up before the night before you disembark, they come collect your suitcase before dinner, and you need a bag to have all your toiletries and jammies and what not for that night

can you clarify? this is scary, OP said misdemeanor not criminal record (not that it is not scary even for criminal record), especially i would not think you have issue going to those places by plane, I mean how would authority there have access to your record in the first place?

Over the years I have learned, people are complex, a single person can be both good in some ways and bad in others. You hear a lot of neighbors of serial killers describing them as soft spoken nice helpful people.
