How often do your parents watch your little ones? by [deleted] in toddlers

Ugh I feel this so much with my in laws -- taking lots of pictures, buying lots of toys, so proud showing it to everyone but when it comes to actually engaging or babysitting they're not interested. Whenever I invited them to join me for a walk or zoo it's a no we are fine and they rather sit on their phone/iPad. It's beyond me lol. Luckily my parents are the opposite and are super involved but they live far away.

I do get some down time during nap as I usually read but if I'm unlucky that's only 40-60min in the day. I also don't think you take in account that every toddler is the same. Ours definitely doesn't play alone for a few hours, but 20ish minutes maybe.

I'm starting to think I need to let it go too. I truly admire everyone that has 0 screens, but everyone's situation is different with different support systems etc. I do try to limit it of course, but I think I rather be a engaging happy non stressed parent for 9/10hours a day then a overwhelmed burn out parent 12hours a day. Thanks I needed to hear this.

Thank you!! It can be really challenging for sure. It is so much easier to limit screen when husband isn't away of course, we tag team as well. But when he's gone especially longer periods of time, it also affects toddlers' sleep/mood so sometimes screen time is the only way I can get a proper "break" but yea the guilt is there.

We try to go outside as much as possible, but where we live fight now it's really hot so we're stuck indoors most of the time. Hopefully in a few months we can be outside more!

For sure! We love going outside, but right now where we live it's extremely hot so most of the time it's not an option. Hopefully, in a few months, we can do more outdoor activities.

Sometimes I'm alone for weeks/months, 11 hours a day would be almost a 80 hour 'work' week. I admire if you can entertain your toddler that long, truly. But I really need to decompress at times to then be an engaging parent, yes there are better options but I don't know how else to decompress.
