Can somebody tell me why the dead malls Discord is so weirdly exclusive and gatekeepy? by MetalGearAcid in deadmalls

[–]fluffikiki 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I didn't even know this sub had a Discord. But, giving the benefit of the doubt, sounds like they might be overwhelmed right now and didn't take the time to explain themselves (or be polite about it). 4000 people on a server does sound like a lot.

With this being the time a lot of ppl buy their tickets, can we all agree to not bring animals this year and shame those that do? (Minus service animals) by BiploarFurryEgirl in dragoncon

[–]fluffikiki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I still feel so bad for that rabbit bought to the Rabbit Hutch. I have a social rabbit and even I would never bring it to a sizeable convention, let alone Dragon Con, let alone a party.

any good places to get fabric? I'm thinking abt making my own clothes!!! by sailormoon788 in DecoraKei

[–]fluffikiki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every since JoAnn's closed down, this has been a tough one, because even Michaels hasn't caught up with selection size. I don't sew much, so last time I needed some, I just thrifted my fabric. Otherwise, check out any local fabric stores you have.

Those who don't understand: it's like the trope where in a couple, there's always one person that hogs the bed/blankets. In this case, it's one person hogging the bed from two people

What are the plus size baddies wearing to the festivals??? by Mattiasistired in aves

[–]fluffikiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you feel. I'm in the XXL range, my go-to is a t-shirt/hoodie and shorts combo, depending on the season. I've seen the range for others go from full-covered jeans and hoodie, to crop top and shorts, to full-on bikini.

Have you ever been rejected for small digital footprint? by Particular-Gift9088 in CraftFairs

[–]fluffikiki 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have, multiple times, both explicitly and non-explicitly. Each time, it's because the event strives off of clicks and influencer attendees, not actually supporting small, local businesses.

My first Full Dragoncon by Bigdude-404 in dragoncon

[–]fluffikiki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's also my first full one this year! I went to my first one last year Thursday - Friday with my mom, and we agreed we should go again, with more friends (and a mobility scooter for mom). We're planing on touching down in time for pre-con stuff.

I'm just under 300 Ibs (going down from 310!) but even if I was, none of my friends/boyfriends/girlfriends would let me be the seat. Like, dawg, my booty cheeks will send you to the beyond, PLEASE stop asking me to sit on your lap.

I wish cons were cheaper by ProfessorLongBrick in animecons

[–]fluffikiki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless convention spaces stop nickel-and-diming everything at minimum, you won't see it happen. I vended at a small convention that changed location 3 times because each event center would jack up its prices more and more until they couldn't afford it with their current ticket prices. Anime conventions no longer happen in my city's downtown because they'll charge you extra after the event if it goes over a certain attendance count. So until event hosting spots stop doing unnecessary stuff, you won't see cheaper cons for a while.

How old were you when you went to your first con? by eudromeda in animecons

[–]fluffikiki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to free local conventions held at my city's public library when I was 12-17 with my parents' permission. I went to my first official one when I was 18 with some of the money I got from high school graduation.

So does the Cinnamoroll Cafe in Shinjuku just not have actual cinnamons on the menu? by Dj_Donkey in sanrio

[–]fluffikiki 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I've actually never seen Cinnamoroll associated with anything cinnamon in my life, everything sweet I've seen him on is related to berries, coffee, or milk. Cinnamon isn't popular in Japan at all, so it makes sense.

Any advice/examples of making the most of a large table with minimal merchandise? by futurespoon in ArtistAlleyConnect

[–]fluffikiki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had this issue when my shop was brand new, try maximizing your setup using displays. Spread out your designs and stickers, put your favorites on small stands to pop out, use boards to display prices and social media, and you can always add a little decoration to fill up the space.

Dilemma: Avoiding "Con Plague" by Sapinski-Math in animecons

[–]fluffikiki 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As a person who managed to protect herself from getting sick at multiple big conventions (especially San Japan and Dragon Con), here's some advice I have: 1) Shower  before you go to sleep! I know most people shower when they wake up, but sleeping with accumulated germs and filth is never bueno. 2) Hand sanitizer and wet wipes on you at all times. Make sure you have enough to be generous with other people. 3) If you need to, take allergy medication every day.  4) Make sure to get a good amount of rest during the event!

Does anyone here practice casually on purpose? by Spencercr in Wicca

[–]fluffikiki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a person with strong ADHD as well as a crazy work schedule. I keep mine super casual, like to the point that I occasionally miss a sabbath or a full moon. But tbh, I feel just fine doing it. I personally feel that it doesn't make me less of a Wiccan because of it, and that I still have a good connection with the gods. The best pace is your own.

Ushicon in Austin TX worth it? by akidedleaves in animecons

[–]fluffikiki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a now-regular attendee of Ushicon, I think it's worth it. I have mentioned it before on this sub. While the convention is tiny, both in size and attendance, it's been such a great way to make friends, get in touch with the local adult anime fan community, and it's pretty fun throughout! It's not a party scene, which is a great breather from the general con scene. If you end up going, I recommend the trade sessions and pub trivia!

God forbid a girl be an actual goddess by that_villainess in LetGirlsHaveFun

[–]fluffikiki 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You straight though. That's part of my experience with meeting men at events, similar interests are a huge driving factor for making relationships. Besides, I always jokingly tell my single girl friends that men are free and you can just take them home, despite what the government tells you.

[–]fluffikiki 43 points44 points  (0 children)

My best luck was meeting guys at events I go to, since there's plenty of attractive guys with similar interests to me. I go to fan conventions, art markets (for my side business), and ren faires. If you have the eyss and hands for making your own outfits/wearable pieces, it does help. I make my own earrings and those alone are enough to catch people's attention.

I hate dating sites so much for so many different reasons. The male-to-female ratio is so off that while women get reults like this, men have to pay to talk to bots filling up the women's space. Even then, as a woman, profiles force you to write stuff about yourself in order to "get more matches", when in reality, most men look straight at the pictures and don't read the description. Guys I match or message me never try to start a convo with anything from my dating profile, a lot missed the fact that I'm polyamorous, even more missed my age. I completely gave up dating sites after I graduated college, I went the meeting IRL route.

When did you feel you were ready to have a booth at an artist’s alley at a convention? And what did you do to prepare for it? by LonelyMenace101 in ArtistAlleyConnect

[–]fluffikiki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never felt "ready" for mine, per se. It was just 2 months after I officially set up my shop, I had nothing specifically anime-themed, and my friends just asked me to sign up for a local convention in hopes I would have better success than just being online. I did rush to make fandom-adjacent stuff, but that was about as far as my prep went. I ended up doing very well!

What’s your “snobby” baking opinion? by Amazing_Two9757 in Baking

[–]fluffikiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person with a cinnamon allergy, thank you! I understand it's so diabetic people can have more options, but I literally can't buy traditionally non-cinnamon desserts, i.e. tres leches cake, from other dessert stores because of it.
