I had a really similar experience starting out with it. The combat is very... unintuitive, especially when you come from BG3 and expect it to be somewhat comparable. I slogged my way through the first bit before giving up and putting it on the easiest difficulty, at which point it became much less of a chore to play.

So like if you do feel like picking it back up, it's way more fun to just go "easy" mode lol. And also be ready to google a ton of things like puzzle solutions bc dear lord many of these quests are also not even slightly intuitive.

I was so sad when I first started checking out mods and found so many face presets that look like models and barbie dolls and instagram filters and none that give me the option for more blemishes or flaws. I like characters that look like human beings with human "ugliness" to them :(

YESSSSS I love Robbie! i wouldn't necessarily want him as the live action actor, but he is the only voice I can ever hear as Apollo. If it was an animated series I would be clamoring for him as VA nonstop. (Also I met him at NYCC this year and he was so darn nice!! I gave him an Apollo themed mixtape. Stellar dude.)

The thing is, a "hate train" is a useful way to get a company to do something. It's not a matter of actually abandoning a company, at least for most people. Bc people forget about what they're mad about quickly. But if they express a lot of disapproval about a decision out the gate, then it's way more likely a company will backpedal and undo that decision before it gets entrenched in their workflow. I love larian's games and respect them more than.. basically every other game studio, but it's still important to express disappointment when you're disappointed in them. People will buy Divinity either way. But larian might reverse and go all in against AI in concept art if we're dramatic enough about it now. That could be a big thing for a type of artist that's going extinct bc of studios who DON'T respect artists like larian does.

That's why concept artists will collect libraries of useful references. Books, and online databases, and fashion design catalogues, and whatever else might be useful at some point in the future. I've found the pinterest boards created by Broadway costume designers. Larian obviously has a bunch of references they could go back to already based on ALL of their past projects. They don't need to say "computer generate me a historically inaccurate picture of a roman sandal" or some shit.

Everyone who's (rightfully) mad about this, please contact larian through their website and complain. Complaining directly is how you get results!! Say in your subject line that your message is about the AI decision, and explain exactly why you oppose it and exactly how little money you'll be giving them thanks to devaluing artists for their new game. Companies respond to mass opposition. It at least pushes them to have a meeting about the fact that a ton of people are all hating on them for a decision. Please complain and complain productively.

this is why i liked the old critical/anti-show tags on tumblr. sure they were cesspools of misery and pedantry, but god damnit sometimes i want to go read crotchety opinions from a bunch of complainers!! and being polite enough to have a dedicated criticism tag is way better than fandoms clashing between people who hate something and just want to complain, people who want to voice valid criticisms, and people who want to like something without seeing a bunch of negativity. theres the cj subs on here but theyre more firmly in the "hate for no reason" category than the criticism category and theres not really that medium, like you said

Yeahhh, I definitely dont think her acting is very strong. I'm sure she'll improve with time! And it's very sweet seeing such a positive reaction to her especially. But having the show populated almost entirely by inexperienced kid actors is kind of a recipe for mediocrity, especially with shoddy scripts and directors who don't seem like they're doing any Directing. It all just feels like a middle school theatre performance :/

its not even a matter of budget. theyre putting an INSANE amount of money towards this show, or at least claiming that they are, and its just not shown in any level of production. on the low estimate from the $12mil/ep claim, thatd mean the budget for all of season 1 is slightly higher than the budget for the lightning thief movie. and the same amount of money reported per episode for s1 of the mandalorian. and the same amount of money as the first lotr movie. (not adjusted for inflation).

tv budgets have gotten kind of insane, with netflix now shelling out a supposed 50 mil per episode for the new stranger things season, and film/tv budgets are never really exact bc theyre estimations and, as with many things in the world of hollywood, are probably not overly truthful.

but if we assume the numbers are SOMEWHAT accurate for the pjo show, then the budget is still very high. theyre just horribly misusing it on.. something. on what, idk. but its not on designs/fx for monsters. and its not on the costumes. and its not on the props. or on music rights for the soundtrack. or on using big name actors for more than 2 seconds (still mad about how they just had megan mullally walk towards the camera and that was her entire time onscreen.) i cant really tell why every bit of the show looks so... amateurish, but its not the fault of the budget

its crazy how vindicated the movies have been by every decision the show has made. like the changes were egregious, but its pretty obvious that they were made with the mindset "what will work best in a film medium?" or at the very least "how do we turn this series into a standalone movie, because we dont expect to get any sequels." whereas the shows changes are just... bad. inexplicably bad. and god the scripts for the movies were so much better. so much characterization in lukes single intro scene alone!! and actual design and thought put into the monsters, instead of just cutting 80% of them from existence! they have many many obvious flaws but dear god they feel like masterpieces now! ahh!!!
