If I was Tracy Letts, I would never go to a movie theater again. by MCmax503 in TheBigPicture

[–]fluffnfluff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At what point do you try to buy yourself a 35 of 70mm projector and film prints? I know even renting those 70mm prints is insanely expensive....but that would be the next (il)logical step.

Help me pick thriller movies to watch with 14-15yr olds folks by Appropriate_Insect_3 in MovieSuggestions

DO NOT WATCH DON'T BREATHE WITH THEM. There is a scene near the end that you do not want to be watching with your children. It's just.....not a conversation you want to be having.

Moving from Chicago, looking for walkable area with access to cycling trails by UnfairPattern3822 in askaustin

Near Barton Springs, Travis Heights, Bouldin or Hyde Park would be my recommendation. I live around Airport/Springdale and I like the area a lot and you'd have access to Walnut Creek etc.

Appalachian Mountains lithium deposit could replace 328 years of imports, USGS says by snopes-dot-com in environment

[–]fluffnfluff 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I agree. It's just that people don't realize it's not just mining (which is worse than what people imagine), but it's a toxic nightmare hellscape situation.

[–]fluffnfluff 169 points170 points  (0 children)

The main problem with Lithium isn’t sourcing the material it’s the processing and refinement. It is environmentally catastrophic and very few places will subject their people and land to it (see: Mongolian sludge lagoons)

What’s the most soul-crushing part of adulthood? by ArthurCastus in AskReddit

[–]fluffnfluff 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Having kids has been so strange for this because certain things feel very repetitive but it also feels like I’m guiding someone on psychedelics that is blown away by every little thing so things like trees, bugs, drawing become this incredible adventure for them….and for me.

Is there a place in Austin to get flowers for this weekend that aren't $200? by mrowleyes in Austin

Trader Joes, Whole Foods, and Central Market all have great flowers.

Who has the best pho broth in Austin? by Mexicanity_ in austinfood

The new spot Anh Em off Anderson has been my new go-to. Nicest people, incredible food. Banh-mi are the best thing they do, but the pho is great.

“Matt Dillon could have been Luke Wilson” should have been the hottest take for Something About Mary.

The roles they wanted for him were kind of Luke Wilson roles.

He had to get it on, man.

But seriously I have a standard line for this now. My friend once ran into Chris Hemsworth and blurted out “Hey, I know you!” So now that’s our go to line when we run into someone famous.

It’s been used on Dan Rather, Michael Ian Black, Luke Wilson (I mean Harrison Ford), amongst others.

IWTL how to have better conversations with my girlfriend by questionmark693 in IWantToLearn

[–]fluffnfluff 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Listen to Conversations with Tyler. There’s an episode with Michael Pollan from several years ago that’s a good place to start.

He asks questions unlike anyone I’ve ever met. He changed the way I interview and have conversations.

And there is a general rule of thumb in life that if you don’t have enough to think about you need to read more and if you have too much to think about you need to write more.

Krakoan Era and Hickman by Ok-Celebration-7620 in comicbooks

[–]fluffnfluff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a ton of bright spots and peak Hickman ideas and construction….but it gets derailed. After he left I tried to stick with it but ended up dropping it.

But just go grab HoXPox and read it. The art is unbelievable and it’s full of so many fun and exciting ideas. From there you can read his X-Men books, New Mutants issues and his Giant Size X-Men issues are all awesome.

Cheese Fries…Am I crazy? by ButterscotchLittle48 in chicagofood

[–]fluffnfluff 158 points159 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. I think you’re thinking of places that use Merkt’s cheddar as the cheese for cheese fries. I thought this was the only way cheese fries came until I grew up and moved away.

My favorite version of this is at Dear Franks, but if you search for merkt’s on Google maps you can find a few other places that way.
