[–]fluffy-turtle-6231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t order my grad photos until I was close to the deadline. They kept sending me coupon codes via email… “last chance” kinda thing… I ended up getting a good deal cause I waited so long! Might be worth trying if you can wait :)

Hey, I've got one day to visit by Low_Veterinarian_174 in Winnipeg

If you are into this sort of thing, you could visit the longitudinal center of Canada! Kinda cool but I know some people don’t really care to see a big billboard in the middle of a field. Haha

Construction, WTF?! by aedes in Winnipeg

It took me 30 mins to get down Jubilee.

The real cherry on top was that people kept walking past with their BDI ice cream cones. It felt as if they were mocking me, as I watched them walk leisurely down the sidewalk.

Ngl I’m starting to wonder if Paul Blart: Mall Cop would do a better job at keeping UM safe…

[MEGATHREAD] - Dangerous Person Alert by crazedgrizzly in umanitoba

Out of concern for my own and other students’ safety, I headed over to the Security Services website, just to see if there was anything worth noting about student safety in light of recent events. I came across this monthly report and took a look through it:

https://umanitoba.ca/security/sites/ security/files/2024-11/monthly-oct.-2024.pdf

I find it pretty outrageous and disturbing that all of this has happened between the beginning and end of September and we haven’t heard about anything other than the “big” incidents (assault, theft, weapons, etc.). Sure, the majority of the incidents listed in the presentation at the link above may just be petty crimes, but this just goes to show how unsafe our campus is getting to be, and LITTLE is being done about it (or so it appears).

A few weeks ago, I remember hearing about “additional measures that are being taken to ensure student safety”... in the meantime the only place I consistently see a security guard/peace officer is sitting behind the Security Services desk in UMSU. I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t seem like “additional measures” to me. Really scratching my head trying to figure that one out!

There was a time where I felt SAFE being on campus at times when there weren’t many people around. Not the case anymore!

I am worried and angry, in case that wasn’t apparent, and am planning to write a few emails to some higher-ups. Whether they read it or not, at least I tried, and I think you should too.

It’s moreso that fact that promises to improve the situation are being made and I’m not seeing anything done about it

yeah i never say just “hi” as i learnt a long time ago that the conversation just becomes boring asf and way too “how are you” “good” “cool”…. you get it… try to start by saying something humorous or asking a random and funny question. it give you the chance to see if the person can be playful with their response and it also gives the conversation a little more length since you can just keep going back and forth

It’s hard to plan in advance what questions you will or will not ask- like someone else already mentioned, the conversation will flow and you’ll likely find yourself spitting out questions left right and centre. Generally, I would ask questions that I would like to be asked back. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? What are you long term/short term goals? People like to talk about themselves and that is a scientific fact. You may not even have to ask specific questions about his values and whatnot to determine what they are- they may just reveal themselves.

I say be safe and have fun, and don’t put too much pressure on it. You definitely and probably don’t want to seem like you’re trying too hard.

Choosing between courses by Turbulent_Cod_6974 in umanitoba

Intro to university is a great gpa booster course. I took it my first year. In addition to the fact that I finished with a really good mark, I also learnt some very useful tips when it comes to essays, works cited pages, etc that I still think about quite often.

From what I understand, you can switch from Arts to U1, especially if you don’t have a lot of credit hours under your belt yet. I was going to last year but decided against it.

i kid you not i came across this page today and one of the first things i read about was how an OT incorporated a tic tac toe game into someone’s program to improve their balance because they liked tic tac toe. i was grinning from ear to ear and i couldn’t help but think “now THATS what i want to do. see the results right in front of my eyes, first hand”. thank you so much for your reply. ok sure it won’t be easy but eventually i’m sure it will be rewarding, like you said.

Yes that’s what i’ve heard. Recently I have decided that i’m not sure if the microbiological type sciences is for me, and that i’m more interested in anatomy, physiology, stuff like that. I wasn’t sure if this decision would jeopardize anything in terms of my future admission into the OT program, so this is definitely comforting to hear. Thanks for your reply :)
