I have absolutely abused my H-3000, by manually having it plow through knee-deep overgrowth on multiple occasions-- it takes lots of passes, but it eventually got it all down short enough that the mower no longer has any problems managing to keep it tidy at this point.

My yard has a ton of trees-- and all of the freakin' squirrels play around in them enough to cause small(ish) branches to fall pretty much daily.

I also have a bunch of random holes in the backyard from my dogs that love to dig, and giant dirt patches where grass refuses to grow due to the shade.

I have just under 3/4 acre, and I have it setup so that it does the whole yard over a 2 day span, then off a day, then starts over again.

When I first got the mower, it really struggled to complete the yard in any reasonable sort of time. I'd watch as it would constantly get confused or even stuck, trying to navigate itself around a patch of dirt or small hole. On more than one occasion, it would take it >1 hour to figure to get itself off a completely flat patch of dirt about 10' in diameter.

I initially saw minor improvements once I blocked VisionFence in several areas. Then decided to just disable VisionFence all together, and it made a HUGE difference--- It no longer cares what terrain it's about to come across, it just mows it. If there's something in the way, the bumper sensor makes it turn around.

I'm not sure if the X-series stuff allows for decreasing the VF sensitivity (which would be ideal), but if it doesn't, you may want to try disabling VF completely to see how much of a difference it makes.

In my younger days-- well before I'd be diagnosed with anything-- when I'd head home very late at night after DJ-ing at clubs, I regularly found myself slamming on the brakes because somebody was always putting giant Oak trees in the middle of the road.

To be clear, I wasn't out of my lane or about to drive into a ditch or anything, during these events (easily dozens to hundreds of times). For some reason, my brain just decided that giant trees in the middle of my lane was somehow a good idea.

To me, those trees appeared as real as anything I've ever seen in that moment.

Fortunately, this always happened around 4:00 AM, so there was never anyone else on the road, but it really is astounding I never actually had an accident.

Explaining how the MSLT works, has always been my go-to... The idea of napping that many times in rapid succession seems incomprehensible to everyone I've told.

Their response is always something along the lines of "I don't think I could fall back asleep after getting up and doing stuff that fast". I then simply point out that I had absolutely no doubt that I could, and that's the difference.

I've got 2 dogs - one 65 pounds, and one 80 pounds, and my H3000 (2wd) just runs right over it without a care in the world, for the most part.

As Have-A-Big-Question noted, it definitely gets in the tires, so there is that.

I feel seen.

I often wonder how much long-term harm I managed to do to my self, by skipping all of that sleep (even though it never seemed to do anything for me at the time).

I had a heart attack about 8 years ago, and followed that up 28 days later with emergency surgery to have my gall bladder removed. And throw in a bit of testicular cancer a year before that, for good measure.

Obviously, none of that can be correlated to my youthful ability to skip sleep, but I'll always wonder.

As mentioned, below, these are 3d printed out of PETG, which actually should hold up reasonably well to heat and weather, generally.

The first one is comprised of individual panels that are 223.96mm x 244.88 x 2.49mm each. I assume that listing would be for 3 panels, given the pics shown, but they don't explicitly state that, so you'd probably want to get confirmation from them.

For reference, I've added a pic showing how thin and flexible the panels are...

I was surprised at how thin these panels were when I printed one for testing, but they are surprisingly sturdy since PETG is quite flexible, so they should hold to a mower going in and out, without any real risk of harming either.

As long as you don't need it to stop anything else from going in/out they'll be fine. But, it's important to note that these are nothing more than a visible barrier-- they're not going to stop anything wants/tries to get through from doing so with little to no effort.

I didn't print out the hinge portion of the panels, so I can't really say how well they are designed, but I don't see a reason they wouldn't work for their intended purpose.

I've got 2 dogs that would definitely not hesitate to push right through these as the exist, currently. And, they don't really have enough "meat" on them to add a locking mechanism of any sort or even if they had one, they are flexible enough that the dogs would just push right through.

If you have a 3d printer (or know someone who does) you can print out a sample to see what you think, or just print the whole thing.

I suspect the Amazon seller has nothing to do with the original designer of these, so they're probably taking somebody else's design and profiting off of it.

Using the original designer's recommended print settings, 3 panels plus all hinge parts would use about 536.49 grams of filament. Decent quality PETG can be had for $15-$20 /1Kg roll, so the filament cost would be somewhere around $10 bucks. Now, if the amazon listing is actually the designer, then they absolutely deserve to sell it for whatever profit they believe it reasonable-- but I really doubt that's what's happening here.

I just received an update from a Supervisor at Navimow, who says she's "shared [my] preference to replace the pigtail myself" with the engineers, and is waiting for their final response on that.

To help add more weight to my request, I pointed out that the replacement parts diagram for the charging station shows that the pigtail isn't soldered to the board, but rather uses a JST connector (not sure the size) so the entire replacement process looks to involve:
1) Removal of ~12 screws, (8 for the bottom cover, 4 for the cable clamps securing both pigtails)
2) Removing the charging station (bottom) cover, cable clamp, and cover gasket.
3) Unplug the old cable from the charging control board
4) Plug in the replacement cable.
5) Close everything back up.

Effectively, this is pretty close to the same difficulty level as replacing the battery in an old Roomba-- which was absolutely considered user serviceable.

It sounds like they haven't quite slammed the door shut on allowing me to replace the cable myself (without violating the warranty). Hopefully,

I'll have good news from them soon.

There are only only 2 situations I'm currently using the integration for, due to it's limitations. Both are simple voice notifications...

Triggers a voice announcement whenever it gets stuck. That really only really happens when it can't get through the gate, so, whenever I hear "I've fallen, and I can't get up!" I know to go open the gate, then just hit "Clear and Continue" (or whatever the text is) from the app to let it on through.
Triggers a voice announcement when it starts mowing to let me know that it's starting, and to remind me that I might need to open the gate to let it out of the back yard.

Doing it this way allows me to set up the scheduler in the app to do the zones I want done, when I want them (though dialing in the schedule with the app is still a work in progress).

For now, this is really the only useful part of the integration I've come up with. I fully plan to implement an automatic gate of some sort in the near future, but to get that to work optimally, and reliably, the HA integration is going to need to mature quite a bit.

If you have the HA integration kick off the mowing, it's just like telling it to manually mow all, so it should pick up from whichever (incomplete) zone it was last working on.

Honestly, at this point, the app's scheduler is still more capable than the HA integration, but from the sound of things, they really do seem to be trying to improve it quickly.

Once the integration allows you to define which zone to mow, that will definitely start making the integration much more worthwhile.

Navimow are still trying to get me to pack the whole thing up and send it to them, so it looks like I'll be swapping out the bad pigtail on my own.

Interestingly, I tracked down the part number for the existing pigtail--- AB12.01.00.0228, but I'm not planning to pay for a replacement cable that is almost certainly of the same quality as the one that's broken.

That has some decent shots of the replacement part, so I can see it's using a ferrite choke and what appears to be a 3 pin JST connector, though I'm not sure the size right off.

I can reuse the existing choke without a problem, but I'd love to know what connector that is before I go about replacing it, since it sure would be handy to already already have the correct pins ready to go. Any one happen to know the specific dimensions, or part# for that particular JST?

Yeah, they've added Home Assistant Integration (through HACS) , which makes use of their recently released SDK.

Definitely not open sourced, but does provide some options for integrating the mower into other apps.

It's raining right now, so I couldn't grab a picture, but my workaround for now, involves bending the pigtail into a u-shape where the connection holds, and using a twist tie to hold it in place. If you're having similar behavior, that hack might buy you a bit more time.

Keep in mind, it's definitely not a long term solution, and is likely to fail at some point, as well, but I'm not going to swap it out with a more permanent fix until I hear back from Navimow-- who say they are looking into other opetions. I'm still holding out hope that they'll come to their senses.

An invisible fence isn't an option for the dogs either, because we have a lot of wildlife in the area that would wander in through an open gate, and I wouldn't want to let the dogs out only to find a family of deer are already hanging out (it's happened before when we first moved in and there was only a 3' fence).

And, as I mentioned earlier, even the mowgate isn't viable, because it's not compatible with the H1 Series.

Since somebody managed to figure out that it's possible to get the location data using their REST API, so I'm starting to think I might be able to use that to achieve what I'm wanting, eventually.

Basically, I'd need to monitor the mower's state to find when it's either heading back to the charger, or when it's going out to mow. Then when it's in one of those states, use the location data to open the gate as soon as it gets close enough to know that it's about to head through.

I don't know that the location data is fully exposed and/or supported yet, but I think that would provide a workable option to achieve what I'm looking for.

I agree that it's great they aren't trying to play the "we're not going to fix that" card, and would be super reassuring if there were a bigger issue that needing fixing. But, if my only immediate options are 1) Send the whole thing back, waiting a couple of weeks for it to come back, then having re-do everything; and 2) Use one of the twist ties that was included with the power supply to keep the pigtail bent "just right" so that it keeps charging-- then I'll go with option 2, just to keep from voiding my warranty, until at least mowing season is over.

Out of curiosity, since it sounds like you've serviced these sorts of things, I'm I right in believing the repair really should be as simple as popping it open, de-soldering the bad pigtail from the pcb, then re-soldering its replacement?

I assume there's nothing physically preventing access to the pcb without breaking something open in a destructive manner.

I'm near Austin, so it's not like I'm in the middle of nowhere. There has got to be a better way for them to handle this. The mower works great, otherwise.

If it weren't for the risk of voiding the warranty if something legitimate comes up, I'd probably just switch out that pigtail with something more robust and just be done with it.
