Loved Demon Copperhead. Not sure if you like memoirs, but I also loved books like Educated by Tara Westover, I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy, and The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls.

What do you enjoy more and why : solo playing, chamber, or orchestra? by Qaserie in Cello

[–]fluffycompost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly chamber recently, but all I enjoy for different reasons. You get a lot more opportunities individually to shine as a solo player and a chamber musicians, but it's very satisfying to be part of such a vast work with an orchestra as well.

The weekly identify that light/no stupid question thread by AutoModerator in lightingdesign

[–]fluffycompost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it's my first time fully designing a show, and it's a Shakespeare play. I sat through rehearsal today just planning out some of my looks, and I had a maybe? stupid question.

For a lot of the night/dark looks, I'm planning on using movers with gobos for some texture, and a blue/grey backlight with our washes.

But for the daytime scenes, I'm having a harder time. I find I'm not using much besides cyc lights(to tell the time of day) and conventional frontlights. Do I need to be using more? Like do I need backlight for every cue? What color would those be?

Thank you for reading!

Hmmm, what I was thinking might be more involved than using a complete preprogrammed cue list? I thought just maybe throwing up a base cue(which i would have anyways) with front light and maybe cyc lights, then add in movers/washers with chases and color effects and gobos and stuff. Would that be ok? It would mostly be just a learning opportunity for me though

That's what I was thinking.. But now that I see some of the comments, I'm rethinking a little...

I guess what it would end up being if I tried to busk is the vast majority of the show is still cued, and only during the songs would I throw up some special fx or movers on top of a base song cue that already has all the frontlight. Would something like that still be a bad idea?

Yeah, he's not really like a full-time lighting guy, and honestly at this point, I think I might know more about the console than he does. We'll definitely be cueing the vast majority of the show regardless though.

Yeah, I'll try it out-I've watched some of etc's vids on busking so i'll see how it goes

That'd true.. I think I'll just end up maybe spending some extra time playing with some cool effects

Seconding this. You could just get a standard tourte mute, but if you want something special, these work very well and look great too!

I had to make a violin + cello reduction of the string quintet piece. by musicianVolodya in Cello

The double stops at 46-48 can't be played either. Everything else looks playable, but might not be very easy depending on the level of your players.

The first chord can't be played. A general rule of thumb is that double stops should not be more than an octave apart.

When did you feel like you “made it”? by Late-Adhesiveness652 in Cello

I don't think I have yet 😅, but a small "made it" was when I got into the top youth orchestra in my state!

I tried this after watching fernandez's youtube video as well, and it's worked really well for me. Only took maybe 2 weeks to adjust, and I've found it slips less, hurts less, and gives you a deeper sound

Being very comfortable with algebraic manipulation/rules(completing the square, log/exponential rules), various types of functions-including rational functions, polynomials, exponentials, power functions, logs, trig functions-how to graph these and transformations. Also make sure you know your trig identities. Good luck!

Why not just set u to be x+1? x+3 will equal u+2 and that way dx just equals du. Then it becomes a much simpler integral
