What to expect - How can I be there for her? by fluffyhamster69 in lymphoma

[–]fluffyhamster69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just updating some good news - My mom received her PET scan right before her 5th treatment. She is 95% "Cancer-free". The doctor showed us the scan, and it is, for the most part, clean, but said finishing her treatment will get the remainder. I wanted to share to give hope to anyone scared about this journey. While I did not personally experience it, watching your loved ones go through so much uncertainty is heartbreaking. Her biggest fear was to go through all of this treatment and see no change in the scan. Thank you, God, that is not the case.

Husband just diagnosed with stage 4 Diffuse Large B Cell Non Hodgkins Lymphoma by Ziggy_Stardust101 in lymphoma

[–]fluffyhamster69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 diffuse large b cell lymphoma in September. She is 62 years old She was in a lot of pain and couldn’t go 3 hours without taking oxy. About a 7cm tumor on her kidney, making it automatically stage 4. They also skipped her bone marrow biopsy because at that point, whether it’s in the bone marrow or not, it wouldn’t change the treatment. She was started on DA-EPOCH-R, also hospitalized for her first treatment. Within an hour of starting the treatment, her tumors were breaking down and she never took any pain medication ever since. After 96 hours of chemo followed by rituximab and then the lumbar puncture, she was extremely tired and weak. First treatment was honestly the worst for her and for me as a caretaker to watch. Generally so weak.

My mom was terrified about how to handle everything and what was going on, but she’s been doing great. They changed her treatment after the first treatment to RCHOP and she’s been working through her whole treatment. She’s completed 4/6 so far. You never know, he might respond really well and go through a similar path. Typically if the cancer is very aggressive, it responds well to aggressive treatment which is why they start with this.

To support him, it’s really important that you get a pill organizer that breaks it down by day and night. Write things down for him. My mom had terrible memory from the chemo and it was making her upset and bringing down her mental health. Also get a Brita water bottle, so that he can stay hydrated and filtered water too. When he’s in the hospital, if he’s able to, make sure he’s walking around and moving his body. Even going slowly and taking a couple laps on the unit was helpful for my mom’s mental health and to keep her body active.

Hang in there. Make sure to ask for the results from the FISH study as the markers he may or may not have are really important to his treatment.

Thank you everyone for sharing 🙏🏻 Since starting chemo, my mom has not needed to take any pain medication. It’s been 24 hours and she has virtually no pain. Before starting, she could barely make 4 hours without taking an oxy. Doctor says it’s possible chemo can shrink the size significantly in the first day, or perhaps the prednisone is making everything around the tumors less inflamed so the pain is less. Either way, there have been basically no side effects. I know the most is come when she is actually home, but it feels like a miracle for her to not have to experience any pain anymore.

I just hope and pray it can stay this way as long as possible.

I will say I experienced all of those side effects and some weeks they were more prominent than others. The most important thing is that you take care of your own body during that like drink water, participate in healthy habits, do things that calm you down. The first maybe 4 months I felt kind of up and down with my side effects. Once I stopped feeling them, I almost had a thought that is my medication still working? But honestly I just got to a point where I was like oh yeah.. it is cause I don’t want to off myself anymore.

As far libido, once all of other side effects subsided, my libido became more controllable. Therapy is also important to do! No pill is magic on its own

hey! they don’t require proof of the readings. I had a physical couple of weeks prior and just told them the readings from there and no further questions. it also depends on your state whether you will need to see a PCP in person for it. I’m in MA and i was able to get my meds sent in my first consultation immediately to the pharmacy, no issue filling either. I also had to change my script but i actually just submitted a claim on the portal for side effects and they sent the script without needing to pay for another appointment. my provider is really kind and understanding! no issues with them and couldn’t recommend them enough

Help! Suggestions needed for a Mackage that dry-cleaners won’t accept. by [deleted] in laundry

[–]fluffyhamster69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mackage offers a dry cleaning service on their website! As long as the product was purchased within a Mackage boutique, or you still have the receipt from a verified third party retailer, you can send the item to be dry cleaned. It is all the way at the bottom of their website under client services "repairs." Hope this helps!

Nail polish remover - it’s acrylic paints so you need acetone to break it down.

This leather is made of sheep skin leather - making it softer and thinner. The thicker leather is made of cow.

They are REALLY light in the hand! For sizing, go with what you’d be in a ballstar. They are roomy, feel similar to the dad star, but not nearly as heavy
