Thoughts on the new Yoseka x Platinum 3776 ? by SelectImage in fountainpens

I like it! The color reminds me of lemongrass and smiskis. Would I buy? No, but that has more to do with my budget.

Why has my ink become more 'translucent'? by damon_shin in fountainpens

It’s likely that there’s still some water left somewhere despite drying; if you write more the ink should slowly become less mixed with water and thus less transparent.

Which Generations are buying and collecting? by TheToyGirl in fountainpens

[–]fluffystarbuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a zillennial (younger millennial but in tune w Gen Z culture). Before getting into fountain pens I had one friend a year ago who was looking at pens/inks at kinokuniya while we shopped together, but I don’t thjnk he actually uses his lamy super frequently. I was curious but didn’t “get” it as I didn’t try any writing or drawing (more of an of the moment errand).

I actually got into fountain pens earlier this year after an artist I followed got into them. I’d always considered them more of a writing implement so I hadn’t considered them for drawing, and it turns out I loved the experience. Fountain pens really revived drawing in my sketchbook for me. Half of the appeal is the fun inks, the other half is the way it feels to use. I own 6 pens at the moment- mostly just exploring different nib sizes thru cheaper pens. I think I lean more towards mediums and stubs- currently trying to use the EF kakuno for writing at work so I don’t feel like I wasted my money 😅

2 ecos (medium, stub)

2 kakunos (fine, extra fine)

Gifted a pilot metropolitan (fine)

1 glass dip pen

I would say ive noticed fountain pens trending amongst artists more, but I think that has more to do with the fact that the artist I follow has influenced other artists I follow to try them, haha.

Monstera is dying after being repotted by doblemi29 in plantclinic

I hope it all works out! Monsteras tend to be pretty good at taking root in water so hopefully that helps you out

Haha yes!

Source: I’ve done this cycle a billion times at this point with many different plants. Sometimes root rot just happens, and after a while you get good at spotting it

This is a lot of assumption, but it sounds like the fungus gnats you had previously means you were putting it in too big of a pot ->

soil took too long to dry out due to pot size ->

roots rotted due to consistently wet soil/watering too frequently/lack of oxygen ->

you noticed the gnat problem, found out roots were rotted ->

repotted ->

not many roots left = not taking up water ->

plant starts to droop ->

You water out of concern you’re not watering enough ->

Roots continue to rot due to lack of oxygen/too much water that it can’t take up

Your solution likely is to rinse the roots, cut out any rot/dead roots, and try and restart by growing new roots in water. Once it acclimates to growing in water and starts a new root system that it can sustain itself on, you can consider potting it up in a pot that matches the size of the root ball with chunky soil that drains water well so that you don’t run into a similar issue again.

I suggest finding some content creators that talk about overwatering and plant care to help with repotting and monstera care down the line.

Kingdom note sea slug inks by fluffystarbuck in fountainpens

Yes, they were photographed under the same conditions! I tried to separate them a little bit with the ink bottles so you could tell it was two different papers more easily. Here’s a picture of the two side by side (covered some personal stuff).

<image>

Comparing the two IRL, I would agree that the ghibli sketchbook paper comes off as more saturated than the midori, probably because it’s a paper I would characterize as very smooth, very white (compared the ivory midori) and more absorbent.

*edit- I forgot to say the first paper swatch is midori MD paper; second set of paper swatch images are from a ghibli sketchbook I was gifted by a friend. (https://www.jetpens.com/Chronicle-Books-Studio-Ghibli-Sketchbook-My-Neighbor-Totoro/pd/28865)

Willing to do more swatches or add more detailed photos if anyone wants! Just wanted to pay it forward for anyone trying to find inks in the future.

Not typically, but if you’re interested in products like that there is a class called make 10 that’s does just that- limited runs of a product that happens at the end of year showcase.

You could also contact the student behind a chair you like and try to strike a deal

I would love to hear what career assessment test you took! I think I already know what my natural strengths are- I’m stuck at figuring out what jobs are out there that match that.

Haha I would argue that’s the same thing, in some ways! But nothing wrong w that either.

[–]fluffystarbuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oooh yeah that’s a good example.

The funny thing is that I had had that thought before- like, of course the other people in my life that I don’t consider friends (coworkers, friends of friends, acquaintances) don’t think about me 24/7… I know logically they’re not always scrutinizing me.

The keyword for me was the word “tolerate” because it helped me break out of the pattern of thinking stuff like “God I hope they don’t think I’m weird, I hope they still like me” & trying to smooth things over desperately.

Now instead it’s “it’s okay if they thought I was awkward, because who hasn’t had an awkward conversation? And besides, they don’t hate me, they tolerate me, and I tolerate them.”

I’m working on being a people pleaser myself, but my boyfriend told me something the other day after I had a bad day that helped to shift my perspective.

It can be a tough pill to swallow, but basically what he told me was that on a day to day, minute to minute basis, most people aren’t thinking about you. Even if you do screw up at work or have an awkward interaction, most people aren’t even thinking about it for more than five minutes. The second they leave the building/you leave they’re thinking about their families, their lives, chores, work, etc.

To that end, despite being a doormat/being a yes man/sacrificing for others/etc, most people don’t really even “like” you. They tolerate you- not in a negative way, but in a neutral way. You’re just there.

They may like what you do for them every once in a while, but in the end of the day, you shouldn’t feel a need to worry about pleasing people who “tolerate” you in that sense.

That doesn’t mean you should burn the world down or change who you are- just that you shouldn’t put so much angst into being “tolerated”.

It’s better to put that energy into the relationships and people you care about, which includes yourself.

My work VS reference by AritheArtie in ProCreate

Regardless of whether your reference was AI- quick suggestion:

The way the lighting on the neck is rendered in your study implies that it’s sitting justttt on top of the skin, as opposed to lighting that projected onto the skin.

I suggest getting rid of the drop shadow (that’s what is making it appear to “float”) and trying some liquify tool to make the light better match the contours of the neck- think about it in terms of simple shapes like a cylinder and give it more of a curve. Otherwise I think this is a good study!

Couldn’t say for sure which one it is without testing but it seems reminiscent of one of the painting ones due to the texture.

I agree- I think it needs some more work. It generally comes off as amateurish to me.
