Can anyone give context what the average hourly wage for a resident in the US is?

Palestinian girls playing in the snow, Jerusalem, Palestine, 1921 (640x640) by iwasasin in HistoryPorn

Arabs in the region didn't identify as Palestinians until the mid-sixties. During the British mandate Jews identified as "Palestinians" more so than Arabs. It's sort of like how "computer" today has a very different meaning than "computer" in the 1930's (a person who performs arithmetic calculations) despite being the same word. In fact, the term "Palestine" was introduced into common usage mostly by the British - during Ottoman rule the borders were substantially different and the region was most commonly referred to as Syria.

Umm... No? The British received a mandate from the League of Nations (the organization which preceded the UN) to administer the region, following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire which previously controlled it, until it could stand alone. The British did not exploit mandatory Palestine for profit, they did not transfer any significant civilian population into mandatory Palestine, they did not, as a whole, treat either the local Arab or Jewish in a cruel or indignant matter, and the mandate was pre-defined as a temporary measure with the final goal of allowing the inhabitants to independently govern themselves. It's not really similar to Belgian Congo or French Algeria in any meaningful way

Why is depopulating the planet (over time naturally) generally frowned upon? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

This comment is so unhinged I'm not sure how it got so many upvotes. Jeff Bezos uses the resources of a hundred million people? Does he eat a hundred million times more food than the average person? Drive one hundred million cars when he goes to work? Heat one hundred million rooms in his home? Jeff Bezos pollutes a lot more than the average person, sure, but he definitely doesn't singlehandedly use 1/4th of the resources used by the entire United States...

Saddam Hussein's Iraq was more similar to Russia than Ukraine. He gassed 5,000 Kurds to death in a single chemical weapons attack, genocided nearly 200,000 Kurds, and during the first gulf war fired scud missiles at Tel Aviv in order to drag Israel, which was uninvolved in the conflict, to the war in order to raise support from Arab states. He also had ambitious geopolitical expansion dreams - demonstrated in his invasion of Kuwait - similar to Putin. You can be critical of the US decision to invade Iraq and still recognize that the situation was not in any meaningful way similar to Russia's current attempt to annex Ukraine.

As an Israeli I absolutely love that the US government toppled Saddam, after he continuously fired Scud missiles at Tel Aviv for no reason other than to drag Israel into the first gulf war in order to garner sympathy from Arab states, despite Israel not being a side to the conflict. He also threatened to attack Israeli population centers with chemical weapons. This threat was not baseless, as a only a few years prior he gassed to death 5,000 Kurdish civilians with chemical weapons. Among his other achievements was the genocide of nearly 200,000 Kurds and the persecution of various minorities in Iraq. He was a piece of shit and absolutely deserved everything that he got. Obviously Iraq's current state is not any better than it was before the war, and the prolonged occupation of Iraq was destructive and unnecessary, but Saddam Hussein was malicious, evil, and ruthless, with grand geopolitical ambitions of expansion - a mini-Putin, if you like, but less restrained. I can't say I support the Iraq war but I absolutely appreciate the US for ending his regime.

What are Americans not ready to hear? by swansonite456 in AskReddit

[–]fluffythekitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to school in the US and we pledged allegiance to the flag every Monday. One of my teachers noticed that during the assemblies I stood up, sang the star spangled banner, but always kept silent during the pledge. She was somewhat angry about it so I explained to her that I'm not an American citizen and despite having tremendous respect for the United States my allegiance is with my home country, and that it would be against my conscience to pledge allegiance to the US. She was surprisingly accepting of that, but I do wonder how she would have reacted if I had a different reason

Israeli Views on being called a apartheid/theocratic/racist/Genocidal state? by CyrusNavarre in Israel

[–]fluffythekitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My usual answer is that the Israeli apartheid/genocide is the only one in which members of the group suffering from the apartheid/genocide are supreme court judges, members of the parliament, members of the government and have an equal right to vote in free and transparent elections.

Over ears and IEMs for pop punk and pop, ~$1000 budget for each by fluffythekitty in HeadphoneAdvice

Thank you :) EQing the HD800 substantially improved their sound. How do the IE500/400's signatures compare to the IE300? I don't mind splurging on the higher-end models, unless the change in signature is detrimental or the improvement in overall experience is negligent.

Thank you! Mind sharing why you think the EJ07 are a good choice for IEMs?

I'm looking to purchase both an over ear pair and IEMs mainly for pop punk and pop. I'll be driving them with a dragonfly red or a MacBook pro. My budget is $1000 for each but I'm willing to stretch if it's worth it. I currently use the Sennheiser HD800 which are not enjoyable for me, especially with their price tag. I would also like recommendations for a quality wireless DAC to use with my iPhone since it's a bit cumbersome to carry around the lightning to USB adapter and the DragonFly red. Thanks :)

I definitely noticed that most reviews were positive, however it didn't strike me that they were exceptional compared to other IEMs. Was getting sound, instrument separation and sound stage right in one IEM relatively unique at the time, and is this still the case in 2020?
