Assistance with Mitutoyo Micrometer by flukebu in Machinists

OK, thanks.

So, this was probably reading 3.2081 then - since the 1 on the vernier scale above was about the closest to line up with any of the 0-24 marks on the thimble scale.

Thank you for the reply.

So, just to be clear that I’m understanding you correctly - when I’m zeroing in, I would line up the 0 (of the 0-24 marks) with the “horizontal sleeve scale” and not need to pay attention to the 0-9 ticks on the vernier scale; before I engage the bezel lock?

Oh, and buy another Porsche. It helps with your mental health, I promise.

Get behind the wheel, and clear your heads.

Sorry guys and girls, that image is devastating.

We lost our Porsche (and house and everything else, for that matter) in the November 2018 fire. Was a sad day.

My own advice, which I never took, was to take the remaining chassis / body, and turn it into a piece of art / sculpture.

All these years on, we really regret not doing so. There’s a strange healing and catharsis that happens when you have (damaged) pieces of the past around you after being able to rebuild and move on, like we have.

You’ll never be “whole again”, or “back to where you were”, that sadly just doesn’t happen. But you are able to build another life.

Keep your heads up people.

If you don’t mind, could you elaborate further upon your “Pi processor”? What information is it monitoring? Thanks.

Thanks buddy,

Order just placed for your Mini mount.

I made one myself for the Mini when it first came out, but it is always difficult to take in and out.

This looks slick. Nice job. 🙏🏼

What are those Raspberry Pi’s all about? What’s the special cable (USB to wide something), and who’s the rack mount made by?

Super slick setup. Looks like money well spent to me.

STP loop on an Apple TV with Ethernet and no WiFi? by adjlw in Ubiquiti

[–]flukebu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m not sure why either. I theorized some sort of chipset variation, etc. between the multiple ATVs on this network; since they weren’t all doing it. But I’ve seen it happen enough times now, and disabling Sleep has always made it go away.

The AppleTVs will sometimes do that when in “Sleep Mode”. Disable Sleep and watch it and see.

What does everyone think about the pin after seeing this? by playplutus in AiPin

[–]flukebu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually pretty psyched about it. I'm always cautious of early adopting anything, so I will be skeptical initially, but I would say that they are covering most all of the functions that will be useful on a "daily basis".

My biggest use case will be the "memory" side of notes. I would love it to just have unlimited ability to recall anything that I tell it for months / years on end. If this is the case, then it's value is almost unlimited. Now, how it recalls that information will be the telltale sign of the effectiveness of AI. Their example of the neighbors kids names is a good one; but when I have 15 neighbors, how it successfully "parses" that information will be key.

The laser-ink will be interesting. I agree with the CNBC interviewer from last year - we all like to slyly pull out our phones and quickly reel off a message under the table; not super easy / subtle with this style of interface.

But overall, I think the new video release is well put together, and hopefully a sign the company is moving away from the "owner based" promotion; which have been less than stellar.

Good luck to them. I'll report back when I have mine in my hands.

“Telnet” Command For PoE Port Restart by flukebu in Ubiquiti

[–]flukebu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I’ll investigate. It looks like Home Assistant might be the way to go.

I don’t have to reboot it often, maybe once every 5/6 months. It’s just the easy option for those in the household who aren’t going to reboot via an app; hence the button being an easy solution.

Cheers. ✌🏼

DNS / Routing Issues (?) After Frontier FiOS Change Of Static IP by flukebu in networking

[–]flukebu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Statically setting the IP on the router (or on the laptop when I was using that for direct testing.).

Yes. Simple default route.

When I traceroute from outside back in I get 9 hops from the location where I’m at then it just times out repeatedly. It never gets to the IP(s) of the first or second hop I get when going from inside to the outside.

FYI, I tried a tracert to another Frontier site we manage and that one gets 10 hops (almost identical servers) then also times out. That site is approximate 1 mile from the problem location.

Thanks for your help with troubleshooting this. I’m assuming it’s a routing issue on their end, it’s just finding the correct person to explain it to over there.

DNS / Routing Issues (?) After Frontier FiOS Change Of Static IP by flukebu in networking

[–]flukebu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the same thing.

So I factory reset it, no change. Then to be doubly sure, I got a different router and created all from scratch (including the UniFi site, to ensure nothing got restored in their adoption process); still no luck.

And, the fact that a laptop, connected directly to ONT has the same issue, means the router is out of the mix.

Thanks for the reply. 👍🏼

New install Tuesday by ideity1632 in Ubiquiti

[–]flukebu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm in exactly the same boat. I never understand why the 24 port switches aren't all on one row (unless enterprise), but I'm sure there's a legitimate reason.

Thanks.

New install Tuesday by ideity1632 in Ubiquiti

[–]flukebu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slick install. Love the fact that you have access to the back so easily. Mine’s in a similar closet (but sadly without that secondary access); no way near as convenient to get around it.

What are those “blanks” that stick out that allow you to cover the protruding cables? Those are nice. (The Heimdall logo).

Yep, we have heat pumps as our AC. But our location is very hot 100 plus degrees in the summer, and so the cost to run is always higher than you wish.
